ASA,

I personally love journals.  Especially if they're cover is unique.  Journals are my fetish.  I also greatly appreciate distinctive scarves.  Just some suggestos.

One thing I do as Birthday gifts and just for the heck of it gifts when I know a friend is going through a rough or hard time or jut to let someone know I care, am thinking of them and appreciate our friendship is:

I buy a basket, line it with a piece of fabric, (cutting it with pinking shears so it is nice around the edges. Then I sometimes will decorate the handle with plastic flowers (daisy's, ivy, etc) and fill the basket with relax type stuff     :-*    such as candles, their favorite bubble bath or bath fizzies, maybe include a handful of their favorite hard candies or chocolates, maybe a loofa spounge. You can put all kinds of things in there depending upon the intent or occation.   :-[ This you can even put a journal in and add stuff you think she would like, note pads,

For a wedding, you can use a big wicker clothes basket, they even have the mini half size wicker laundry baskets at walmart. Those you can decorate and then fill with all the mini stuff needed for a kitchen , those dollar store items that no one gets cause they are all thinking big when people buy wedding gifts.

Can include things like whisks, spatulas, clips for holding snack bags closed, even zip lock bags, pot holders,  measuring spoons, maybe a set of kitchen towels, just a bunch of small stuff.

Ok now you have my creative juices flowing   ;D

One basket I did I put a bottle of martinelli's (none alcoholic bubbly) and put in a package of fancy crackers, a jar of homemade pepper jelly, some candles, almond roca, and other stuff.

Can make a baby basket like the wedding one except putting all those little mini items no one gets cause it's just small stuff.

Just to be nice and sweet..... a relax basket
wedding baskets
baby baskets
joke baskets
sick baskets..... word puzzles, boredom stuff and soothing stuff.
A simple basket, decorated nicely, filled with little goodies and tid bits  and you can keep it as simple or go all out.

It depends on who the gift is for cos knowing the person (or rather what type he/she is) helps a great deal.

So.........who is the gift for and maybe I can help  :-*

Assalamo Alaikom,

I agree with Umwafi... depends on the person...

- Some people will like books
- others like girly stuff like cosmetics...etc.
- Others like poems or a special letter - like personal stuff

My ideal gift would be...erm...an audio quran recitation set by Ibraheem Jibreen, or Mashari Rashid, or Sa ad Al-Ghamadi  :-*
oh yeah...or a box of Patissas hehe, thats this crumbly indian sweet thing - MmmMmm my favourite
ok..ok..thats what i would want but thats what you asked for, right?  :D
okie dokie for real, you could get some perfumes, or some bath stuff or...some aromatic oils or..
try and get into a conversation with the person about what they like, and then get them that. That would definately make them think your a sweet sis that loves them very much  :-* :-)

[slm] sis!

I know, gift buying can be soooo hard sometimes...I always wanna get the *perfect* gift, but I realise a lot of the time, anything I get her will be appreciated, inshaAllah. :-*

If you know what she likes, then get her that.  ( I know, useless point of advice!  :)) but I remember a sis of mine bringing me arm guards from Syria, cuz the ones we get here are sooo uncomfortable, so she saw them in Damascus, thought of me, and bought me 2 pairs, one black, one white. *sigh* how sweet...I really appreciated the gift:)

Like Kathy said: if you know she cant get her hands on Islamic stuff, then get her some cool Muslim gear...anything from a pretty scarf to books or tapes or CD's...you can use sis Cara's idea and make a basket of cool Islamic stuff for her... :-*

The gift does not have to be anything major, just thoughtful!  I am sure anything you get her will be great inshaAllah.  Let us know what you decide inshaAllah.

Hope more ppl give their ideas...sorry for not being more helpful
Salam
Shahida :-)

ok so i bought this gift for myself, but it would totally be a cool gift to give to a friend ;)  hehe, and i'm going to try and see if i can find some more of them, but the gift is this way cool stamp set my roomie found at Border's.  It's 21 stamps and they have these arabic calligraphy words on them! So like one says salam, another says noor, another says hubb, and so on. This little book comes with it explaining all the words, and it all comes in a beautiful wooden box. AND it was only clearance for FOUR dollars! which is a steal, considering stamps can be pretty pricey! (it was originally $20).

Me thinks an ideal gift is priceless... but um, I know this really great movie that touches the heart. I honestly, haven't seen any movie better than this and my friends think I'm nuts, but they have yet to see it.

If you ever drop by the video rentals.. try renting Children of Heaven or Colors of Paradise. It's by the director Majid Majidi... should be in the foreign film section. It really uplifts the spirit..a feel good movie.

Take care.. :) >^o.o^<

What size would you get? And wonder if you got a size too big!!

Imagine the different kinds you could get and what would be the message you were sending ... Too bad Mr. bean wasn't here..he would have a field day!

briefs?
bikinis?
thongs?
silk or cotten?

What do you think the receiver would say?

Assalamu  Alaykum
I sent a friend a gift cheque once for a spa package to pamper herself.  She was so depressed because the man she was to marry decided he wasn't ready.  :'( I thought this would really cheer her up. :-*

i must admit, the best gifts I've ever recieved (as fromage as it sounds) weren't the most expensive... or the largest.... but rather, the one's that i know had some thought go into them....  i think the key word here is PERSONALIZE... if you buy a journal, start it off with a few liners....  if you put together a gift basket, spray it with the bodymist that your friend hates....  pick a few of her favorite wildflowers and decorate the basket with it...

i think pictures are MY best friends when it comes to gifts. i think good old fashioned hand made collages are fantastic,  black and white pictures put together/ arranged creatively in a larger frame are VERY pretty.....

hmmmm need more ideas? if not.... as i said, *P E R S O N A L I Z E* that way, it doesn't seem as though it was a last minute shopping spree that you did to put together the first items you saw at Hallmark, but rather, that you took some time to think about it, and put some effort into it to reflect your friendship.

hope that helped...... :)
fi aman Illah,
sakeena
