Doubtful Thomas

I attended an interfaith youth meeting last night and a Christian friend told me about the story of "Doubtful Thomas": it goes something like this...

According to their beliefs, when Jesus Christ (a.s) was resurrected, he came back to the people and everyone accepting him to be the real Jesus Christ.  But there was one man (?deciple) who came forward and asked to touch the man calling himself Jesus.  He touched his hands, and had to put his fingers through the wound (caused by the crucifixion) before he truly believed that Jesus was Jesus, eventhough of course, he looked, acted, spoke and did everything exactly as Jesus (a.s) used to.

Now obviously we dont believe all these things, but it really reminded me of something:  I have a friend who fits this description of doubtful Thomas.  I don't mean that she just questions everything (which is something every Muslim should do, our way of life is not about blind following) but what is distressing about her is that she NEVER accepts anything! :(

Let me explain:  for example-we come out of the Friday prayer and she will go and try to find the book or call *her* sheikh to check out what our Imam has said in the Khutba.  Whenever I tell her something, especially if I mention the reference, she will never accept anything anyone says, even me.  I remember one particular incident, when something happened and someone mentioned Duaa-e-Qunoot, and I told her that we could recite the Qunoot in any prayer, even Maghrib if we wanted to, and that the Qunoot was not only for Witr or Fajr...and on another occasion, she told me that we can read Salaah in English or Swedish, and that Arabic is not necessary, and I told her, that Quraan in Salaah is ONLY Arabic.  She would not trust me.  I am hurt by this very often, it's like she doesnt trust anyone!

Then one day a Jordanian sister told her something and she just acepted it.  I knew what the sister was saying was a minority opinion and not something that is widely accepted by the majority of the scholars of Islam.  But because she was Jordanian, she was beyond reproach... ???

So what's my point?  How am I supposed to react to this?  She really is a doubtful Thomas, who even after seeing the hole in the hand, will not have accepted it.  Nothing is authentic unless it comes verbatim from *her* sheikh or any *true* Arab (i.e born in an Arab country)...I even tried to show her something in the Quraan, but she said she would have to discuss it with *her* sheikh first...sub7anAllah. And she told one non-Muslim that we beat our children when they are 7 years old and don't pray.  I had to contradict her in public that day, because it was just factually wrong to leave the non-Muslim with that impression.

How would you deal with someone like this?  I have resorted to avoiding her, not getting into discussions with her about anything especially religion, and basically thinking, I should best keep anything and everything I know or learn to myself. >:( :( ???

Looking forward to your input inshaAllah

There was a reference of this in one of shk deedats books or lectures which I had listend /read long ago I remember it well but I cannot give u the exact verse refrence but it would be  a worthy hunt  ;) for some one interested

The disciples of Isa alai wassalam thought he was dead though allah swt says that he did not die nor was crucified but it was made too look so

So when he turned up at the house, his disciples where shocked  they didnt know if it was who they were seeing esp thomas who refused to believe even after Isa alai wassalam identified himself

as jews they knew according to their scriptures in the old testament
(exact verse/refrence i dont remembr now sadly)  the ressurected have no bodies (skin bones flesh) but are only souls/spirit

Isaa alai hi wassalam was asking Thomas come touch him and  see that he has bones flesh muscle and skin which implies he was neither  dead and ressurected but he was  the same LIVING  Isa  the leader and prophet they knew

Allah swt says in the quraan

"That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of God";- but they killed him not, nor crucified him,BUT SO IT WAS MADE TO APPEAR TO THEM , and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:- " 4:157

"And remember, Jesus, the son of Mary, said: "O Children of Israel! I am the apostle of God (sent) to you,CONFIRMING THE LAW (WHICH CAME) BEFORE ME , and giving Glad Tidings of an Apostle to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad." But when he came to them with Clear Signs, they said, "this is evident sorcery!"  61:6
