Reasons to break your prayer?

asalaamu alaykum,

does anyone know the reasons one may break their prayer in the middle?  for example, if a
mother's baby is crying in another room, can she stop praying to tend to the child?  or
does it depend on if she knows the child is safe or not?
if you have any evidence, that would be appreciated as well.
jazakuallah khair.
