Salaam

I'm a regular member here but I thought I'd post anonymously today because I wanted to
share a poem I wrote some time ago which I came across again yesterday.  Mash'Allaah you
guys are really talented and poetic, so this isn't as good as what u guys post.  But
anyway, after I found my poem yesterday I thought I'd put it up here.  I don't write happy
happy stuff, for some reason i write dark poems or sad ones, am not sure what that says
about me!

Anyways this poem isn't very good, I wrote it when I was upset because i thought I was
going to let my Dad down over something, so basically the person I'm refering to is my
father.  And it's not really a poem as such.  But hope u enjoy it anyway.

I never try to do anything
That I know will earn your anger
I listen to you tentatively
I speak when you ask of me
I work hard so as never to fall in your eyes
I watch what I say
As I know you never like a harsh word
I try to be patient
But then,
I am me and you are you
I can never live up to your name
Regardless of how much I admire you
Regardless of how much I respect you
All I can ever do
Is fail you.

I think that was good. Poems that come staright from the heart are extra special
As for writing sad poems more than happy ones, that isn't unusual. I'm pretty sure most poetry in this world are more about hurtful times than happy ones. I'm like that too, most of the poems I write are written when I'm sad or upset about something. It's ok though, it can help you let go of your sadness ... and then.... smiiiile :) :) :)

wassalam

Masha'Allah....very nice 'Anon'... Jazak Allahu Khairan for letting us enjoy your poem.
I hope we may have more poetry 'Anon' & Signed Alike..... Insha Allah
Since I am not poetic myself I can only enjoy the beauty others have expressed... Subhan Allah
'Anon' wrote: don't write happy happy stuff, for some reason i write dark poems or sad ones
I'm not one to say.... but I believe everything has a balance:
good/bad.... light/dark..... Summer/Winter.....Sun/Rain....... Masha'Allah ........ dark has it's place.

Two Boxes
(Author Unknown)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have in my hands two boxes which (Allah)God gave me to hold
He said, "Put all your sorrows in the black,
And all your joys in the gold."

I heeded His words, and in the two boxes
Both my joys and sorrows I stored
But though the gold became heavier each day
The black was as light as before
With curiosity, I opened the black I wanted to find out why
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole
Which my sorrows had fallen out by.

I showed the hole to (Allah)God, and mused aloud,
"I wonder where my sorrows could be."
He smiled a gentle smile at me."
"My child, they're all here with me."

I asked, "(Allah)God, why give me the boxes,
Why the gold, and the black with the hole?"
"My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
The black is for you to let go."
