| I hesitate a bit posting this as I wondered how many jeers, snicker and eye rolls ::) I would get. But if after over a year of being part of this Medina family I cannot come to you about things I don't know what to think. ??? So here goes and with a sincere heart. I hear of many who become Muslim pick new arabic names but I also heard the prophet (pbuh) or somewhere in the Quran says to keep your fathers name and that is why in Muslim married women do not change their names to their husbands. But I was wondering about a first name? I am confused :-/ Educate me ??? if it is not inappropriate to want and pick an Arabic name I have one now. It was given to me by someone who I care about and highly respect. He has always treated me like a true sister and I have great respect for him. We have talked about so much in the past 1 1/2 or 2 years. I have learned a lot from him. His kindness is great. I have invited him to our city and I hope he comes. Anywhooooooooo :P what is the way of thinking on this matter? |

| salam, cara u don't need to have an 'arabic' name as long as ur name has nothing unislamic in it u don't have to change it either :) some of the ppl on the board gave their opinions on why they changed/if they changed their names.. i think the thread is in Al-Manar.. check it out ;) take care |
