Y is it that american muslims, are so different from worldy muslims?

is it because of the area, enviroment.  or is it just the government differences????

Welcome to the Board Brother SwordOfAllah.... Enjoying your posts here already.... Masha'Allah

I like the question here:

I feel embarrased to ask this but was curious what differences you & other members here as well, might notice?  Do you or any of the members here see characteristics that run similar in American Muslims / non-American Muslims??

Did you mean Native to America..... or long term American residents as well?

As odd as it may sound, most all Muslims that I know personally are not American. I have found in my small realm that those that are not American just spending time in the States, there are a fair % that seem to have a lack of dedication to the pratice of Islam.  Those residing in their own country have on a larger % been alot more practicing & alot more conscious of Islam & Allah (swt).  However I know my view is very limited so that's where my question stems.

well, in general, i have noticed that muslims in the united states are diff, than muslims in other countries, in many ways.....

1.) muslims in other countries are more braver, because, they have to experiance servival.
2.) there being treated diff. than us, so in result they would act diff.
3.) islamic view.....(my opinion)....non american muslims, practice islam as a habit, because there, everything is based on islam.....here, we pray when the time comes, we dont think bout it, our serrounding is not islamic, and we feel shy, (not sisters) to ware islamic clothing outside, because we are americanised.....
4.) we dont see the other muslim issues as they see is, we only here bout it on the news......

~***this mabey will give u a better understanding, inshallah

Well i think the question should be about Muslims living in western countries and not just America as compared to Muslims of Muslim countries.

And i've talked to many Muslims who spoke of these fears they developed over the time by living in western culture. They speak of the immense peer pressure and the need to blend in !! which some put forward as an excuse not to follow islamic teachings !!

PS: I'm not generalizing here

A different perspective:
1.) muslims in other countries are more braver, because, they have to experiance servival.

Trust me for a revert to give up his god, family, traditions, style and customs to become a Muslim is mighty brave.

2.) there being treated diff. than us, so in result they would act diff.

Reverts belong nowhere, until they have spent a significant time in the Muslim Community. They no longer belong in their society and often are not accepted in the Muslim Community.

Yes, Islam is not a habit for reverts. It is very calculated in the beginning.
We appreiate the prayers and rules so much more because we have seen what happens when they are not followed.

4.) we dont see the other muslim issues as they see is, we only here about it on the news......

This sadly is true, as Mujy always called me a "brain washed American." Most, underline most, are.

Ps.... want to write more, but gotta decorate the Cheescake... Jannah, Se7en. Barr and Maliha are on their way!!

yeah!

As salam alaikum
although many say that those muslims in the united states (and canada for that matter)
are less religious or less brave or whatever they fail to see those who practice islam in
america ARE brave.  In the western world it IS a fight to be able to practice Islam.
Although those who grow up in the islamic world HAVE Islam, however i dont think they
APPRECIATE it.  They grow up with it and therefore many who move to the West lose it as soon as
they arrive because they are not forced to obey any longer.  In North America i feel that
the littest act like a teenager leaving class to pray juma is more brave than to be a
totally practicing muslim who does not appreciate his religion but only follows it because
any thing else would be ridiculed.  In fact, looking at this situation it is just a
juxtiposition.  A muslim in america must be brave in order to practice islam, or else fall into
the mainstream.  A muslim in the muslim world must follow Islam, or else be among the
small percentage of those who dont and be ridiculed or even harrased by government.  This is
not to say that ALL muslims in the muslim world do not appreciated or practive with full
faith.  This is defiantely not true.  I just believe it is much harder in the Western
world to obtain the same level of religiousness and thus i believe it also take a lot more
bravery

-just my thoughts :) i hope i did not offend anyone and if i did please forgive me

Yes, we shouldn't generalize and because no one has, so its all good and no matter where we are Allah is there, His orders are there and having said that fitnah is there as well, so the battle must be fought and won inshAllah

btw ABCD originally stood for "American Born Confused Desi", then at mIRC we gave the word lots of twists and in the process it became "America "Based" Confused Desi" (just to cover more people) :P.

The current full form of an ABCD is ""Abroad" Based Confused Desi", just to cover the whole western desi community :P

heh :) Written in humor, no offense intended

Sister Silverose it sounds you are looking for match for yourself .........;) because that's the time when people in Pakistan check for ethnicity which is called "brathery" there. Even very religious people make big deal out of it and don't let their children marry outside the brathery. By the way if you are memon then you must be very rich aren't you??

I think if anyone from memon community deserve to be mentioned then that's Abdulstar Khan Eidhi. There are very few people in the world like him.
