Confused about silent and lound salah

Assalamu Alaikum

I am confused about what part of the prayer we pray aloud and what part we pray silently.

I know that the Basmallah should always be said silently, whether in loud or silent prayers. But what about the other parts? is everything else said silently for the silent prayers? What about in the loud prayers, is everything said aloud, except the Basmallah?

i would really appreciate an answer.
Jazakum Allah khairan

All Allahu Akbars and Salams are said outloud... if your alone you dont have to say it REALLY loud becuase you are leading no one prayer, but alhumdulilah loud enough for your ears to hear.... dhikr said during ruku and sujud are not loud....

Fajr - Fatiha and another surah are outloud.

Duhr - Fatiha and other surahs are said silently

Asr - same as Duhr

Maghrib - fatiha and other surah in first two raka are loud, in the last raka, fatiha is silent

Isha - fatiha and other surah in first two raka are loud while fatiha is silent in last two rakas

inshallah this helps

As-salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah,

Not sure I understood the question, but for all "out loud" prayers (Fajr, Maghrib and 'Isha), the parts that are said silently are the opening du'aa before al-Faatihah, the basmalah (although it can be sound out-loud), the glorification of God while bowing/rukuu', the glorification of God while prostrating/sujood, at-tahiyyaat and any accompanying du'aa before the tasleem. So "out loud" is basically just the opening takbeer, Al-Faatihah (in the first 2 raka'a), the additional surah (in the first 2 raka'a), the takbeers before every movement/sami'Allah, and the tasleem.

Related to the Basmalah, went to a "Salah workshop" at a local masjid recently where the Imam said that the basmalah could be recited out loud or to one's self (there's apparently ikhtilaaf) before Al-Faatihah during prayer.

Islam Q&A mentions the same:

Praise be to Allaah.

Reciting the Basmalah (i.e., the phrase “Bismillaah ir-Rahmaan ir-Raheem"/In the name of Allaah, the most Gracious, the Most Merciful) is mustahabb (encouraged), not obligatory. It is mustahabb if you are going to recite a soorah from the beginning, so the worshipper says it before al-Faatihah. With regard to the soorah after al-Faatihah, if he is reciting it from the beginning of the soorah, then he should say the Basmalah, apart from Soorat al-Tawbah, because the Basmalah is not recited at the beginning of it. If he is reciting from the middle of a soorah, then it is not mustahabb to recite the Basmalah.

The Standing Committee said:

The sound Sunnah indicates that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) recited the Basmalah in prayer before al-Faatihah and before other soorahs, apart from Soorat al-Tawbah, but he did not recite it out loud in the prayers in which he recited Qur’aan out loud.

Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 6/378

They also said:

It is prescribed to recite the Basmalah in every rak’ah before al-Faatihah and before every soorah, apart from Soorat Baraa’ah (i.e., Soorat al-Tawbah).

Ibid.

And they said:

If (the worshipper) is going to recite a soorah after al-Faatihah, he should recite the Basmalah silently beforehand. But if he is going to recite a brief passage from the middle or end of a soorah, then it is not prescribed for him to recite the Basmalah.

Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 6/380

And Allaah knows best.

Alhamdulillah, i figure out what i needed to.

Sister Nouha, are you sure all Allahu Akbar are said outloud?

At Islam Q & A, i read that they are to be said silently.

i think it depends on your madhab.

I heard that if you're praying alone, you should speak the parts that an Imam would say aloud, loud enough so that only you can hear it.  Including the Taqbirs.

(Hanafi Fiqh list...unfortunately couldn't find the discussion...but I HAVE read it)

Wasalaam.

What I know of is that u do it for fard prayers only, and u do it when u intend to pray in jama'ah (congregation) but u are alone. So, it not only gives u the 27 times more reward for intending to pray in congregation, but it also gives the other person (who might have gotten late for/missed  congregational prayers) to join u for jama'ah. Don't know if it works the same way for sisters too. Allahu A'lam.

Wassalam.
