| [slm] My brother is going away to college and i don't know what to give him. He already has a laptop. He also has a small thingie that does a lot of different stuff + it has internet on it too; i don't know what it's called. He's got a cell phone. He has a really weird (cool?) expensive calculater too, just looking at it makes me confused. He has clothes. He has a sleeping bag. He has a backpack. He has a nice blanket. I will give him a $100 bucks he could spend it on t-shirts and the like with his college logo or whatever. I want him to give him something Islamic. I will buy him a nice, new prayer rug. He's going to take his Quran with him. I wanted to give him two Islamic books he could read. But I dont know what. My brother prays, reads the Quran, and fasts. And his interest ends there, (even though he won't admit it). I want to give him a really good book, that will cultivate his interest in Islam more. Even though i have read a lot of books on Islam too, i can't think which one he will like??? So can anyone help me out here by giving me good ideas for 2 books? Or nice lectures even? Another thing. He's into computers and stuff. Is there Islamic software he could enjoy? Thanks for you help. |

[wlm] Awww...Mashallah your such a nice big sister, buying presents for your brother :-* hmmm....as for the books, you could give him a book on the seerah of the prophet (saw) such as...'the sealed nectar' or, 'when the moon split' I started reading a bit of both at the same time and Mashallah the amount i've read so far is awesome. Hmm...as for the second book erm..'Book of Eemaan' by sheikh Ibn Taymiyah is really good too. Lectures...you could give 'Purification of the heart' By sheikh Hamza Yusuf...i havn't heard them myself but sis Maliha started this really wicked thread on the notes of the lectures and thats something really beneficial Mashallah. | Assalamualaikum Sister panjul... I just got an idea . :-[.Maybe you can give your bro an alarm clock .The types that can wake up an entire neighbourhood(exaggerating) with snooze function. or maybe shoes that can last him his college days .Lotsa walking to do in a college campus and comfortable shoes can be sucha blessing .maybe he already got these things??? A wall hanging with something Islamic inscribed on it .Like a short sura or kalimah? Inshallah you'll find something that is useful and your bro appreciates very much . Assalamualikum ps: i don't know books that a college student will pick up and read .But an Arabic quraan with good english translation is a must . |

| [slm] i am going away for college too. sis AyeshaZ just reminded me of taking the compass prayer mat! thank you... you should give him one of those mosque alarm that plays the Azaan during each prayer time. it will be good reminder to pray. :) i am inshaallah taking one with me. btw, this goes for all my brothers and sisters who went to live in the dorm, would u guys write a list of things that one should take when going away for college? i started to pack some stuff, but i want to know what other important things that i should take with me. thank you ;-)s and :-)s [wlm] |
