What are the best shopping places in the United Arab Emirates for islamic clothing? I'm looking for some decent and yet stylish clothes i.e long skirts,  blouses, jilbabs, hijabs,etc...

wassalam

Which city will you be in?

For abayas, try going to souqs, where things are cheap and you can haggle to get a lower price. But beware! If you wanna wear one abaya constantly, make sure it is well made other wise itl last 2 weeks. I guess its because in saudi its just to go out, but in london I wear to school, everywhere... its better to buy several, and rotate :D

lady, which city is the best for shopping?

i'll be staying in ajman mostly insh'Allah but i'm planning to go to dubai for shopping. the thing is last time i went there i only saw the black abaya and sheela, i'd prefer some variety.

also i wasn't very impressed with the malls. i was expecting they'd have more modest clothes but to my disappointment it was not much different than the malls here in the US. or maybe i went to the wrong place  ??? i was only in the dubai for 1 day.

any suggestions ? :)

Yes, Duabi is the best for clothes shopping, but remember that Dubai is also a major tourist destination, and so they cater for a largely western clientele, I guess :)

Try Sharjah? People there are slightly more strict, so I guess that they might have what your looking for... Ajman should have local souqs that have what youre looking for  ??? I hear the fashion is now to wear a black abaya with a colored tarha, (in saudi anyway...) so they should have a good cheap range so you can stock up well :)

Anyone who actually lives in Ajman would be a major help I guess :)

While I a not a shoppin fan, these tips may be of help

Try the Sahara center in Shj. They have branded hijabs (duno the name)

The Irani souk behind  Rolla area, Sharjah, has excellent collections, although black styles

There's another shop called pardah house beside rolla park, sharjah that offers variety, especially indian flavor

Another shop. i think its called haramain, in al Mullla plaza, located on the sharjah-dubai road.

There are planty of shops... u can chooose from :)

happy shoppin

Personally i wud avoid going to the big malls in dubai..they usually hike up the prices unnecessarily..
you would want to try the bazaar by al manal center..
also for colored abayas and coats you may want to try Al Karam..tel # 2256507..they usually carry stuff from jordan, lebabnon etc..
the al-ras area in deira has a good variety of small stores also, majority of them have very nice scarves and are more economical than the bigger stores..
Altho i prefer not to purchase at a mall, the hamrain center in dubai has a good collection of abayas, usually reasonably priced..
what i do is though, i purchase some colored material and have my coats stiched..they usually work out around the same cost and plus i get to design what i wear..
have a good time in dubai inshallah..and dont forget to eat burgers at jabal al noor and the mexican shawarma(i love that stuff ;) )
wassalam alaikum

Sister Mohja nice to know you are going to visit UAE. Well brother Jaihoon has covered Sharjah shopping malls very well. There is another market in Sharjah Rolla area which is known as perume market since most of the shops there sell perfumes but you can also find good collection of abayas over there.

In Dubai you can try City Centre, Hamrain Centre, Oisis Centre, Burjuman Centre and Al-Ghurair shopping centre there are a lot others but what I have mentioned are economic ones except last two.

Hopefully you would have good time and better shopping this time .........:)

thanks everyone, i really appreciate all your suggestions. jazakum Allah kheyran!

bro jaihoon, i'm not a shopping fan either especially after starving for modest clothes in the states, but because of that i'm more than willing now to go on a shopping spree in a muslim country  ;D

my relatives just moved from sharjah to ajman.so insh'Allah i'll ask them about all those places you recommended :)

sr duha, that's an excellent idea. insh'Allah i plan to get somethings custom made, if i find a good seamstress. also is al-karam in dubai or sharjah? the stuff you said they have is exactly what i'm looking for.

and as for the food, lets just say that i haven't eaten shawarmas in so long that i plan to amend that generously ;)

ok now, what about bookstores? museums? cool places to visit? etc...

i know , i know...i'm greedy  :-/

For shawarmas and stuff, you can find plenty in all emirates. Everyone have their own favorites.

For bookstores, don't MISS book mall in sharjah, near al qasba lagoon, old expo.  They have excellent collections (inludin mine ;) )

Also is Book corner in city center shj, books gallery in sahara center, shj and magrudy in deira city center. Dubai lamcy also has one. Also al ghurair in dubai.

I bought a couple of Abaya's from Abu Dhabi but we found most of the good stuff were from small shops on the back streets, you can find a good selection of the latest fashions. Just walk around and I'm sure you'll find small shops nearby to where you stay. They don't look as inviiting as the shopping centre but are definately worth a visit.

Definately avoid buying from the malls because the prices are high and most clothes stocked are western - GAP, Oasis etc , there were limited abaya selection when we went. But great scarfs and shawls. Why do the bigger shops have so many raffles? Where ever we went there was a chance to win something like a car, gold, kitchen...........We
accumalated 30 raffle tickets in 3 days!

BTW isn't there a famous Dubai Shopping Festival which takes place every year? When does that next start?
