[slm] Brothers and Sisters in Islam,
It so happens that I need two topics for school:
one for my technical communication final paper and

the second for my applied math undergraduate research. I have taken Calc 1,2 and 3, Differential eqs.(although i might not remember most of it by now!), abstract algebra and dynamical analysis. Also, some linear algebra when i as in pakistan , but ofcourse they didnt transfer it here so i have to take it again.

Does anybody has any ideas???Please share and JazakaAllahu khairan in advance.

Ma'asalama.

Given the courses you have taken, it might be best to do a project on numerical solutions to differential equations that can not be solved by analysis.

Since you are doing applied math, just pick anything in an advanced physics text and that can be a project. For example you could do something on hilbert spaces as used in quantum mechanics theory.

If you are interested in linear algebra and combinatorics try the IEEE journal on information theory. Information theory and coding are two areas in electrical engineering that are just maths and nothing else! You could do a project on some error correction codes, research their mathematical proofs and simulate them or something like that.

May Allah help us all.

Depending on how willing you are to brush up on those diff-e.q.'s, something in control theory might be an idea.  (Did my undergrad thesis in that myself, but that was years ago.)  Also, given the courses you have had, a topic in non-linear optimization, or optimization in general, might be of interest.  It would depend, I guess, on whether your research has to be new and original, or research where you are teaching yourself something new, and writing up the results of what you have learned.

[slm],
Thanks Sis Dawn and Bro Ahmed for your suggestions. I havent decided on the Math research topic yet but I have decided to do my Tech Comm paper on forensic science InshaAllah. I guess I forgot how interested I am in this subject. So may Allah help me with this, Ameen. Thanks a lot for the suggestions, JazakaAllahu khairan and
Ma'asalama. :-)
