as'salaamualaikum ;D

inshAllah, i'll be getting married in a months' time. :-X :o :-X  i'll also be moving away to detroit, michigan.  i currently live in the wonderful state of texas; and the great city of houston. :)

i wanted to know, if any of you, moved states after you got married?  and what you did to make yourself not miss home/family/friends as much?  i understand, naturally you will miss all these things - but any way to lessen the void? :)

i will inshAllah do masjid hopping.  try and visit a lot of them and get familiar with the community there. :)  i've been told there's a huge muslim community there; so inshAllah, that will be fun. :)

anyone from the boards in detroit? ???  just wondering. :)  any advice, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

Salaam Sarah,

First of all congratulations!  May Allah keep you two happy together and give u a long life together InshaAllah.

I got married one year ago (one year this Sunday actually ;D)
I moved from Albany, NY to New Jersey.  Although its only 3 hrs away, I lived in Albany for my whole life,  leaving my friends and family was very hard initially.  But as time went on, it was great.  I got to meet tons of new people in the Masjids in New Jersey.  I made so many new friends.

It may be hard leaving ur friends and family initially, but u will definitely be greatful because u will get to meet so many wonderful new people.  Get involved with ur local masjid in Detroit.  It'll be a great experience:)

Take care
Mehvish

I did...about a thousand miles away. I wrote tons of letters ( before e-mail even existed!)

I also went home for a short visit about every 6 months.

There is a void, but it is not so bad because your new hubby will fill alot of the emptyness. It really is nice to have him all to yourself and not have to split your time between him and your family.

This I loved most of all...and the shopping!

Also discovering new restaurants, picnic areas and parks is alot of fun!
