Concentration during salaat

Assalamualikum

I don't know how many of you out there have faced this problem that I am about to
write. If you have and have ways to help me out with this...please reply asap
because it is driving me insane and making me feel very guilty.

Lately (umm actually more like a few months) I have not been able to concentrate
during my salaat. It is not like anything has changed in my life, nothing
troubling or the sort that could preoccupy my mind at this time, but it is just random
thoughts from the day or the days before, about people I met a few hours ago or
those I met few years ago...it is very random and thus crazy....shaytaan is really
taking a toll on my concentration and focus and often when I finish my prayers, I
feel dazed as though can't remember how many rakaats I prayed. I know I pray the
right number of rakaats becos I somehow am able to pay attention to that but I
don't want my prayers just to be actions...simply going from rukuh to sajood and
reading out all the surahs and duas I kno.  I want to feel it too.

Any strategies or words of wisdom out there? This has been really bothering me
and I need help!

May Allah reward you for your time and help.

First Off, A Scholar in the masjid that i go to once delivered a Sermon on this topic, one interesting thing he said was A thief goes for stealing where there is some valuable thing in the same way Shaytaan attacks more where there is more faith !! Yes, you shouldn't take these distractions for granted but you must not be disappointed by the whole thing as Shaytaan is doing this to disppoint you and make you leave salah !!

Now here is something that might help inshAllah, well its our belief that we can die any moment so we can die the moment we are done with our prayer, hence we should think that the prayer we are saying currently is our last one!! and furthermore we are to meet our Creator (Allah) after we are done. This will help in concentrating and obviously there are other ways as well that you can find in that book that bro yousef recommended.

alsalamu alaykum wa rhmat Allah ta'ala wa barakatuhu:)

i'm not sure if its mentionned in the article that was posted but something that really helps me is a phrase i heard at a lecture i once attended

"your thoughts in your salat are as your thoughts out of salat"

it means that whatever you preoccupy your mind/heart with while you're not praying, will also have the habit of popping into your mind while you are praying.....and the remedy for this is to try and remember Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala all the time....it really works to choke out any unwanted thoughts later on during salat ....try it and see what happens:)

walsalamu alaykum wa rhmat Allah wa barakatuhu:)
