A Young Lady Whose Flesh Peels Off Her Body at Home

In The Name Of Allah The most Gracious The Most Merciful

A Young Lady Whose Flesh Peels Off Her Body at Home

The following is reported by a lady who washes and prepares (woman) dead bodies for burial.

"One day a family called me and asked me to participate in washing a dead woman related to them. I went and entered the room in which the body was laid. The family members locked the door from outside. I was kept alone with the dead body in the room. I started reciting verses of the Quran and sought refuge while supplicating (saying 'duaas') until my body calmed down. Them I asked Allah to help me and I started to wash the dead body. Everything needed was provided. As I opened to look at the body of the woman, it was so dark like a piece of charcoal. I started getting worried; however I struggled to complete the wash expecting rewards from Allah. While I started washing the body, to my surprise, her flesh was peeling off her body like pieces of cotton. I quickly finished the wash and prepared the dead body without realizing how I completed the task. Then I knocked the door for the family to let me out, they did not believe that I had finished. I confessed that I had completed the wash. Then they opened the door and I quickly ran away and went back home. I spent three sleepless nights and kept on weeping. Thereafter I called one of the scholars and explained to him what I saw. He told me as far as darkening of the face is concerned, that indicates that she used not to pray (the 5 daily prayers). Regarding peeling off of her flesh, that indicates she never covered her body and did not wear 'hijab' (scarf).

After the funeral days were over, I went to the woman's family so that I confirm what I heard. I initially asked them why did you lock me in? They said before you, three ladies came in and all refused to wash her after having seen her (dark) face. We did not have a choice except to lock you in so that you wash her. Then I asked how her life was, they said she used not to pray and used not to wear hijab (scalf)."

Someone just asked me if this is true what the scholar said.  The answer is, I don't know, especially the part about the peeling off of the flesh, has anyone heard of this?

But  Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: There are more than fifty types of effects of sin which are dealt with in detail in the book al-Daa’ wa’l-Dawaa’. When discussing the means of being patient in avoiding sin, in his book Tareeq al-Hijratayn, he mentioned that some of the effects of sin are: blackness of face and darkness in the heart; stress, worry, grief, anxiety and hardheartedness; being forsaken by Allaah, so He does not help or support one; sickness in the heart which, if chronic, leads to death, for sins inevitably deaden the heart.

After reading this article I was shocked to say the least.
However the first thought that came to mind was that it couldn't be true, because otherwise a matter such as this would have come to light sooner. I mean surely she was not the only Muslim in the world not to have prayed 5x daily and not to wear hijab? Then surely it would be a known phenomenon amongst Muslims to say the least.
But I am willing to give the article the benefit of the doubt.
Just say however that it is true, then is it supposed to be a sign for other Muslim women from Allah or is it a punishment for the woman herself. Because if it is punishment then will it affect her if she is dead and her soul has left the body?
Or similar to the grave experience is she still in her body and will suffer the pain of it all?

Just wondering  :)

I dunno. Without some evidence, I don't think stories like this should even be told.  Like we know that some people have told lies when trying to promote good deeds, for example the famous chain letter from the night watchman of the Prophet's (SAW) mosque in Madinah.  Maybe this is just another one of these ?

And another point, we know how much authentication must be done before we declare a hadith of the Prohpet (SAW).  So shouldn't stories from other people be held to an even higher degree of authentication?  I mean there is NO chain of transmitters with this story, something that according to the science of hadith would render a hadith totally unfounded.

Well once I read interview of the man who hanged Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto (Ex Prime Minister of Pakistan). One of the interesting thing what he told in his interview was that he could figure out through his experience either the men who he hanged were innocent or guilty. He said if the face of dead body turns black after death it means he was guilty and if the face of the dead body remains normal it means he was innocent.

Allah knows the best ....

Subhana Allah! Although there may be a few exceptions, we as humans have no way of knowing whether the dead are forgiven or not, of the companions of Paradise or the inhabitants of Hell.  We cannot judge by what we see when they are dead.  There may be good signs, and the family should be informed of them.  If there is anything that would distress the family, they should not be informed of it.  There is a clear ruling on this and those that wash the dead are not to talk about  or discuss with others that would not be good signs.
From a fiqh as-sunnah Death :
The washer, male or female, must be a trustworthy and pious person who will not broadcast what he or she might see except what is good.

Ibn Majah reports that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Trustworthy persons should wash your dead."

Scary post Bhaloo. :o..but i just wanted to say, that I agree 100% with sis Taalibatul-Ilm.  Whatever is seen while washing the dead body should not be revealed.  (definitely if it is not good, Allahu a3lam)... It forms part of the respect we have towards the body.

Well I think the meaning of that hadith is that it shouldn't be bad name for the dead person. But if the identity of the dead person is kept secret and someone just reveal it like a story then I don't see any harm in it since it might be source of naseeha for us.

I can recall one hadith when Holy Prophet  [saw] was passing by a graveyard and he stopped besides two graves and told rest of the sahabis that those two persons were going through punishment because one used to do backbiting and other was not making much effort to escape from urine drops during his life time.

So Holy Prophet  [saw] did disclose something bad about those two dead men what was not known to others and that discloser has become naseeha for us for life time.

I didn't mean the story or that the story was posted, I meant the content of the story.  Actually, the fact that in the story the woman "saw" what she "saw" then went to a scholar who made a declaration based on that, made me think that they story wasn't true.  That is not the point though.  I wanted to make sure we as Muslims know that if we wash a dead Muslim brother or sister, we should not reveal anything we see of a particular person, except that which is good.
Most dead have darkened faces when the blood congeals, except those who Allah saves from that.  We cannot come to conclusions based on the color of the face.  We would be putting a lot of families through grief if we decided a dark face was a bad sign.  And Allah knows best

I personally dont take these stories too much into account for

1) the sources are very ambigious

2) Iam no Judge of people,Iam Not sure of myself that If I wear modest clothes pray five times a day that I will die om Imaan or go to Jannah

3)Lets not interpret the un interpretable

3.5) If i come across something that is true of this nature I will take it  as a lesson in life and move on

4)She could have had some serious medical condition /decomposition that her body started of peeling

5)
out through his experience either the men who he hanged were innocent or guilty. He said if the face of dead body turns black after death it means he was guilty and if the face of the dead body remains normal it means he was innocent.
I dont why people judge this way when a person is hanged the blood to his/her brain is blocked and due to the pressure the veins become engorged and the face looks flushed/ black
This is more obvious in a fair skinned person nad hardly obvious in a dark skinned person

6) I dont understand why these horror stories are posted specifically in the Akhwat cafe,Alhamdullilah I think all the sisters here are modestly dressed and and dont need the subconcious reminders in the way of horror stories

Sister Taalibatul_ilm I am agreed what you said certianly no one knows who is forgiven and who is punished. As it's clear from following mentioned hadith:
Volume 2, Book 23, Number 334:
Narrated Kharija bin Zaid bin Thabit:

Um Al-'Ala', an Ansari woman who gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet said to me, "The emigrants were distributed amongst us by drawing lots and we got in our share 'Uthman bin Maz'un. We made him stay with us in our house. Then he suffered from a disease which proved fatal when he died and was given a bath and was shrouded in his clothes, Allah's Apostle came I said, 'May Allah be merciful to you, O Abu As-Sa'ib! I testify that Allah has honored you'. The Prophet said, 'How do you know that Allah has honored him?' I replied, 'O Allah's Apostle! Let my father be sacrificed for you! On whom else shall Allah bestow His honor?' The Prophet said, 'No doubt, death came to him. By Allah, I too wish him good, but by Allah, I do not know what Allah will do with me though I am Al lah's Apostle. ' By Allah, I never attested the piety of anyone after that."
More over according to Islam we shouldn't judge anyone against any standards which are not defined by Islam.

Brother siddiqui the person who I was talking about was a christian if I am not forgetting his name was "Tara Maseeh". He was even not educated. He became kind a celebrity during 80s since he was the person who hanged Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutt. So what ever I said had nothing to do with Islamic teachings it was just comments of that person and I myself might not be agreed.
