| [slm] all! Well Alhamdulillah, I finally found a house in beautiful Montreal! (it's pink brick and has purple stairs!!!!!!!) Insha'Allah I should be moving in and getting used to the city throughout July/August. It was soooo good to walk into a Lebanese place and have a halaal chicken shwarma! No more forced vegetarianism for me! :-/ I just had a question about the city and the Muslim community there... Where are all of the mosques -- or really, does anyone have (or know of) a favourite or popular mosque there?? I'm excited about getting to know the community, but was a little "weirded" out... Binah and I went to pray in the campus musallah. There was a thick curtain separating the men and the women (we couldn't see the imam, and I certainly didn't know what was going on). We were also ignored by the sisters there -- who seemed to be shocked when we gave salaams. I'm coming from a small town where EVERY Muslim knows one another -- so seeing so many Muslims who were not interested in newcomers was a little bit unnerving for me. Does anyone know what the various communities are like in Montreal...and where to find them? Jazak'Allah kheir. Peace, Nistar. |

| [slm] Unfortunately, I've never been to Montreal....I know it's pathetic, I only live 6 hours away...but whenever the family went, I was always either working or on vacation. I do have some really good friends there...at the various universities. I found [url=http://www.montrealmuslimnews.net/montrealmosques.htm]this[/url] Don't worry...you'll adjust, inshaAllah. People in big cities are unwelcoming, by default. It's a survival technique. Say Salaam another 5 times, and they'll be okay :) Wasalaam. |
