Alhamdulillah ir Rabbil alameen. .. yes we just came home... Today is the last day of the retreat.. but some of us had to come home early a bit. I just dropped off Barr at the train station.. we were pretty nauseous (sp?) and our arms were killing us after we rowed for 6 hours yesterday.. !!!  I think we all benefitted and certainly the Adirondacks and the retreat site is beautiful.  There's just something about being able to just walk to the lake and sit there for an hour doing dhikr..We also met Mystic maliha who is a mystic indeed ;)

BTW check out our new Tazkiyah waterfall forum...

[wlm] warahmatullah :)

Alhamdulillah, thanks for the welcome :)

It was a beautiful trip, right from when I left Singapore, till I came back a few hours ago. I'm having jet lag (its 3am!)

I nearly missed my flight, coz we woke up 30 mins after my train left. And I was secretly hoping that I would, be staying for a couple more days ;)

And yes.. our arms nearly fell off coz of the rowing. This is not my first time canoeing and I've canoed in a competition before, but my arms have not felt such pain and numbness before, till my teeth and face went numb too. The only thing that consoled me was that this is purfying me, alhamdulillah :)

And I thot.. oh jolly! if I get hospitalised, I dont' have to go home! Yay!  ;D

But alhamdulillah, se7en has acquired some massage skills, and I popped in some of Jannah's miracle drugs before going to sleep. And it was like a miracle, the next morning, alhamdulillah.

As for the retreat, it was pure sweetness, mashaAllah. I have many questions answered during the retreat. And met so many beautiful hearts there, mashaAllah.

Its such a coincidence that the theme of the retreat was "Happiness of the Rigteous", for it was happiness that I have been searching for a long while.

[center][i][color=blue]Truly in the heart there is a void that can not be removed except with the company of Allah.
And in it there is a sadness that can not be removed except with the happiness of knowing Allah and being true to Him.
And in it there is an emptiness that can not be filled except with love for Him and by turning to Him and always remembering Him.
And if a person were given all of the world and what is in it, it would not fill this emptiness."

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah,

I have to share with you all how amazing it was to meet Sis Barr, Kathy and Mystic...  masha'Allah, they are all such soft-hearted, warm, funny, and kind sisters.. It was truly just such a pleasure and blessing being in their company :)

We (Jannah and I) first met Sis Barr, as we picked her up at the train station a few days before the retreat.  She struck me as a very soft, graceful sister, giving us a warm smile and hugs even though she was very very tired from her trip.  After driving around Albany a bit we went home and rested, then had a nice dinner ( ahem "nice" -- I cooked.. she's a brave chica :P)

The next day we picked up sis Mystic from the airport.. masha'Allah homegirl knows how to pack ;)  it took all four us to stuff her suitcase into the trunk.. hehehe :P  Mystic struck me as very amiable and high energy.. I think because I have never seen her pic before, it took me a while to connect her face with her spirit that I knew so well :)

That same day, we rented a car and headed out to visit Kathy.  Masha'Allah, Kathy is such a warm, open hearted and funnyyyy sister.  I think we all felt at ease within the first few minutes of meeting her... and Ali is such a cutie masha'Allah :)  We got to cruise around the city in Kathy's cool cat car  8), visit the da'wah center that she has dedicated so much of her time and effort to, and then came home for an amazzzzzing lunch.  Everything was made from scratch and the cheesecake...  :o all I can say is  maaashaaaa'Allahh.. hehe :)

The next day we headed out to the retreat and experienced some of the most beautiful, soulful and amazing experiences of our lives.  Also at the retreat were deenb4dunyaa, our beloved little sis from canada :) and bro Lightning, bro Abu_Hamza, and some other peeps from the board.

Mystic, Barr, Jannah and I shared a room, and it was just.. awesome :)  I just feel so blessed and happy to have experienced those few days with these beautiful sisters.  Barr with her wicked sense of humor and her reflective and beautiful spirit...  Maliha with her soo funny stories and such deeppppp and penetrating writing.  It was so amazing how easy it was to talk and laugh and share reflections and thoughts with them.  I couldn't believe it was only the first time we had met.. I felt such a strong connection with them, and really had such a hard time saying goodbye when the time came :(

I love you guys, and miss you a lotttttttt :'(   Jazkaam Allahu khayran for everything.  May Allah bring us together again.

Well, I just thought you all would like to hear about our adventures :)  Insha'Allah I hope they can also share things from their perspective  :)

wasalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah,

Every internet person I've met in real life has been the total opposite of what I thought s/he would look like!!  Sometimes it takes some adjustment and stuff to who the person is on the inside..but after awhile u get used to it...

Meeting Barr, Maliha and Kathy was totally cool*. For some reason this time I just felt at home with them.. I even told them some scary secrets ;) They are awesome women.. It was kind of intimidating to be around them actually. They are so intelligent and fun.  Me and se7en were so scared that they were going to meet us thinking we were so cool and then they will be like 'THATS them how pathetic' :) but alhamdulillah they didn't say it!!!  :-/

Assalamu'alaikum :)

Alhamdulillah, althjough it was a rush going to the US.. the whole trip was such a blessing and Allah made it easy.

I reached Newark Int'l airport after more than 24 hours of travelling across 2 continents, and waiting for transists.

Alhamdulillah, though I didn't expect my arrival to be greeted with cheerleaders, a big hug and a warm smile, the immigration officers were nice to me. They didn't give me any problems, for I was expecting the worst.. (Momma Mod tried to scare me :P) One of them who helped me with my bags from the X-ray machine even said salam to me!  :o I looked at his nametag, and his name is Dennis. I don't know if he is Muslim... but Alhamdulillah, an immigration officer saying salam is a good sign! :)

Then I spent like a few minutes asking around where is the train staition.. going up and down the lift, asking for directions... met some other people who said salam to me.. then, found the train station.. met some other very helpful and friendly people.. and I'm like.. subhanallah.. what a lovely place! Everyone is so nice, mashaAllah!

So anywho... to cut a long story short, I reached Albany train station at 3.30pm. I thought I was late.. and I was like.. where r they? where r they?
I was so excited and and nervous.. wondering wot would they look like? Wot's our reaction when we see each other... But noone was at the waiting lounge... I went out to the carpark.. maybe they're waiting for me there? But noone was there... So I went back to the waiting lounge, plopped my luggage  :(. Suddenly, I see 2 figures, coming in from the main entrance... 2 dark silhouette...

Assalamualaikum :)

Sorry Jannah.. hope you're not dead yet :)

....[i]Suddenly, I see 2 figures, coming in from the main entrance... 2 dark silhouette...[/i]

One tall hijabi, and another shorter one... though I can't see their faces clearly... I know its *Them*.

In my mind I'm like... Ya ALlah! Its them! Suddenly, like the slow motion of an Indian movie, I imagined.. myself running in s-l-o-w motion towards them, with arms outstreched... and they, running in s-l-o-w motion towards me with arms outstreched, with  our smiles that stretch for miles... while our surroundings are just like a blurr screen, the only things that our eyes could see ONLY us, us us!... and I wondered how would I do a 3-person hug? Would my arms be long enough?

<FLASH>

"khalas, forget it, Barr.. just get your bags and go to them" I suddenly flashed out from my indian movie scene, turned to get my bags.. and then..

Oh! they're right beside me!

We gave salam... [sub]chat chat chat[/sub] gave each other REAL hugs, and BIG smiles [sub]chat chat chat[/sub]... and if you guys are still wondering.. who they are.. its them se7en and Jannah :)

Then, we zoomed off in Jannah's Ford... I really like her car, alhamdulillah.. :) and somehow, I've permanently carved myself a seat in front... for I've never sat in the back seat, all the while I'm in her car throughout my stay. I'm da navigator :)

FAST FORWARD >>

Its night time, and se7en's cooking dinner! after a rough nite in the kitchen, we finally sat down for dinner @ 1am! and se7en can really cook, mashaAllah :) And my favourite dish that she made is the instant mashed potatoes with cheese  ;D OK, OK.. U make good salan too   8)

We sat down with her mom, (all the men in their house had cooked their own meal and ate - couldn't wait any longer for se7en's curry!) And their mom is so funny.. ya Allah :D. Apart from trying to dodge auntie's recommendations for some local Albany blokes, it was such an enjoyable and fun meal together, mashaAllah :)

Subhanallah, I think they've got one of the most coolest parents around. :)
