A sister can do more than cook

Ok Ladies, all the slack we get from the bros about our posts, not mentioning names but ones initials are N.O.M.I.    ;D

Outside of cooking, cleaning and kids what are some of your most impressive projects you under took?

A couple of mine?
I ran over 4,000 feet of fence line with me, 2 others and a bobcat (please tell me you know what a bobcat is and I don't mean an animal  ::)  )
In a day and a half, posts and 4 strands of wire    :o

Building shelters for farm critters and raising our own meat to stock up the freezer. OOPS does that come under food  :P  )

Any sisters help hubbys or had to do things on their own, fix a car? Patch a roof?  I'd be willing to bet kathy and a few of the others have some good projects they did in the past.

Well mine are nothing compare to yours Cara, I am sure you will be laughing at them, But I'll mention them anyway :)  I have changed flat tire, have shovelled out totally snow buried car , have driven 12 hours( Birmingham AL to Chicago Il) with two small boys(5 and 2 1/2) to give my husband a suprise visit (you dont want to know his reaction :) lets just say that I have been told not to do that again :)).
When we were changing our apartment, we rented a u-hual and asked two brothers to help us move but they didnt show up, my husband wanted to postponed but I didnt, so we moved everthing furniture, small boxes, big boxes etc. Beside that I manage all financial, bills, tax etc things (my husband just deposit pay check in the bank :) and doesnt know any thing about balance or what phone company we have :) etc :) )

Shoveling a car out of the snow   :o
Talk about some major work    :P

And a 12 hr drive with 2 small children   ::)
They must be well behaved children.

As for the tire changing, I don't know if I should say thi,
but Sis you got one up on me.
I can change the oil (with car driven up on a ramp)
But as to a tire. (Oh man I hate confessing this)
I wouldn't know where to put the jack     :o
I'm serious.
I'd proably end up puncturing the gas tank or something   :D

Cara -  you just look under the car and there is a thing right there behind the wheel where you put the jack - you can do it I know you can :)

I'm not gonna add much to this thread except to say I can do a lot of things my husband can't do and my husband does all the cooking  ;D

[/quote]
Well painting a room is something other than cooking and cleaning and child care. Not that there is anything at all wrong with that.  I very much enjoy those three activities and many things I have done was cause I had no one else to do it (or didn't like the way they did it and done it myself so it was done right   ::)   )

See, shoveling snow, long drives, painting a room, building a fence. We are some tallented sisters   ;)

Last week-end I wanted to spent time with my son and he was building his garage. We were setting cynder blocks, mixing and pouring concret and we had a blast. He liked having company he said and told me it made the work more fun and go faster. I wanted to be with him and talk to him and working side by side of him was fun. He asked me to pour more water in the wheel barrel one time and started to put the shovel in the barrel at the same time I was pouring, water hit the shovel and splashed water all over me and we laughed and laughed.  :D

So I helped my daughter-in-laws with the yard work too that day and my son with his garage and it was a blessing to be with them.

Come on you other sisters fess up   :P

Eleanor you have a chef/cook too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me too, he is the best BBQ'er and the stir fries he does
mmm mmm good.
Maybe when my hubby gets back they can swap recipies.

cue: the brother's thread on "A brother can do more than cook" started by my or your husband  :P
Of course you can have the recipe but first I have to unchain my husband from the cooker and get him to write it down for me... (expect very "loose" measurements in the spice dept.  :P)

So after several posts few sisters have replied, I guess thats not a surprise. My view of sisters is that they can't do much outside ruggged work since they are afraid of breaking their finger nails. Its a sad fact but I know its true.

You sisters best stick to your tea and scones storys and oh yes marrige, hijaab, cross stich and hijaab and marrige again.

Caraj, you sure your not a man trapped in a womans body, all that work is  unheard of in a woman.

Well, I don't do much with car work, but I've moved twice with just another girlfriend of mine and we hauled everything, including all the furniture ourselves!!!  ...and I'd like to add that I never want to do that again!!!  LOL

ummm, about the most rugged thing I can do?... LOOOL I can complete advanced Tae Bo!!!  LOL

Long before I converted I used to hang out with friends who always taught me how to fight.  I boxed for a while but only for exercise and I learned how to punch and kick and quick moving maneuvers for a possible situation in which I would be involved in physical fighting.  Thank goodness I never did, but I used to practice my punches and stuff on guys (padded up  :)  ) and I have been told that I would be able to knock a guy out so long as I threw the punches/kicks first!!!  :)       I have come aweful close to punching a few guys in my lifetime....

My husband just called and we laughed and joked about this post.
He said to assure you I am 100% woman. And I don't know if you read in one post what I told a sister about a 100 to 110 lbs lab I picked up and lifted to face level and shook and scolded for going after the neighbors chickens? But he said that wasn't what impressed him the most (proably taught the man not to make me mad  ;D ) He said it was the way i handled those huge horses on the ranch.

No Bro, I am just a hard working workaholic who loves critters, farming and the outdoors.

All that work for a woman unheard of !!!!!!!   Oh PLEASEEEEE    ::)
Just a typical hard working ornery American outdoorsy country cowgirl
                          yeeeehaaaa    ;)

For some reason I was born hyper and active. But in many countries women take care of kids and critters and garden and all. It is called survival. Look at lions, it is the liones that hunts, the men lions are all passed out sleeping under trees  :P

well since I dont have ne blood brothers I grew up helping my dad with stuff.
I have painted rooms many times, mowed the lawn all the time, always rearranging furniture, and built a little storage barn and a huge cabinet/shelves from scratch with my dad.
I use to help my dad cut the trees/trim them ect. ..
my sister moved so we have moved her furniture many times....
I have learned to change the tire but I cant do it with my car because my car is a sports car and has extremely heavy tires...
oh yah Ive helped my dad patch the roof also ...
Alhumdulilah my dad is very talented so he knows how to do mostly everything so we always help whenever he fixes something, ect...
have also shoveled snow and have spray-painted the fence too...
have also helped my dad clean the carpet w/ the machines and put tiles in kitchen.

Just want BroHanif and his muffingang (tea and scones indeed tcheh) to know that my husband's fingernails are more even and beautiful thaan my cracked, chipped and Gawd-knows-what nails.

I haven't done much since I am one of those frail females *glares at the bros* but I change me own tyres (I had two flats once).  I had also changed the oil once and the spark plugs.  I repair the lights when the starters went bonkers.  I actually read up on an easy guide book and fixed my laptop.  I cycled for more than 10km with my son in the seat behind.  I baked like hundreds of doughnuts for my kids' sports day activities.  I drilled the holes in the wall and fix the shelves myself.  I took on the bank officer singlehandedly when she insisted her statement of accounts was right and I showed her what accounting really is.  Best of all, I just have to *look* at my kids for them to scamper to bed.

All my husband have to do is massage my feet when I am done heh heh  :-*

Well, I grew up in a neighborhood of boys and no girls, I played kick the can, football, hockey on the rink in the back yard..Still had a set of barbie's though :)

Pre-islam days for me I had many "masculine jobs"
I worked on a team removing asbestoes from a powerstation
Worked in an autodealership as the part's person

As for around the house things
Helped build a wooden fence and deck
Laid sod
Did many things with the car
drywalled a room in a house
I regularly build computers from the parts up to a working machine
I am cheap  :-[, so I buy my furniture mostly disassembled and put it together myself
Have taken care of my lawn, garden and such
Shoving in winter I enjoy

Whew  []

I need to go "cook" now

lets see ....

i can do all the car stuff --- change oil, tires, spark plugs and wires, clean the battery posts -- this is a good trick when you think you need a jumpstart -- this does the trick most of the time!! and i can change a battery when it doesnt.

i used to play (american) football with my brother and some of his friends and some of the guys from youth group (pre-Islam, obviously)

i also have done some snow diggin lately. did you guys hear about the blizzard in denver last year? we had about 6 feet in our driveway and my roommate at the time and i had cabin fever BAAAAAAAAAD!!! so i shoveled and got out the jeep so we could get out for a bit :D

i also am quite the "techie" i guess ... i have worked for a web hosting company and a telecom company as tech support for websites/internet service.

i have helped out with some remodeling projects -- painting, tile and caulk, drywall -- think Trading Spaces, or While You Were Out ...

hmm ... what else? i know there is more because i am a tomboy underneath a (relatively) ladylike exterior.

and, i do make a mean paella.  ;D

I'm not very good a la manual labour, I can put together flat pack furniture though, my husband loses his temper and gets mad so it's generally better I do it, so yep when we didn't have much money I put together a couple of wardrobes and the 'puter table.
I also handle all the financial stuff tax returns vat returns you name it, but ummm I quite like doing that :-[.

Okay so I guess I'm the typical GIRL..and cars are just cool coz they can take me shopping, but FREAKILY enough, today I had to change a flat tire.

I was driving from Lausanne to Geneve taking a scenic route, because..well because I'm highly stupid and it's my last week here, and I felt like doing something that would get rid of the pre-nostalgia.

Also it was my first time driving a stick shift, because my dad hates automatic cars.  Furthermore, I totally admit that I canNOT drive, so I ended up ...umm...kinda climbing the curb, which caused the tire to literally explode.  Okay now before you guys start laughing....the road was abnormally windy.  Not windy, as in with wind, but windy...like...sharp turns.   Also European roads are like uniquely small....and the pedestrians are way too courageous (I'd suggest they limit their chances of an accident, and look both ways while crossing when I'M ON THE ROAD.)

Turns out, my mom knows how to change tires (who woulda known??!!)...she said that her decade in Africa paid off.  Anyway, so after trying to get the stuck-up french people (may Allah forgive my peeved self, and may all french people forgive me as well) to help out, with my mom's help and my dad's direction on the phone....I did it!

ta daaaaa......   ;D

I am SO proud of myself.  Thank you for listening.  two-four.

Wasalaam.

(P.S.  Caraj, to answer your question...I once fought a war with an army of red ants all by myself.  Blindfolded, with one hand...and with the help of a hose  ;) )

Let's see,

I have helped my husband remodel the house
hung sheetrock
rewired the electric
ran phone lines in the house
helped put in a woodstove
helped rebuild an engine for a Chevy S-10 pick-up
do my own tune-ups and oil changes. . .

And I still find time to cook, clean and spend time with my grandkids! ;D

I have push a car out of muddy knee-deep water, helped slaughter animals for dinner, helped take care of our pets (horse, chickens, goats, cats, and a turtle ;D ) this included cleaning and feeding them.  After my mom divorced, we (girls) became the lifters of everything heavy.  When it was time to move our house, we moved it.  Killed snakes and mice.  The usual :D

And i can do something most men cant. I can deliver babies... I am a midwife  :P
