This Week's Time Magazine Cover Story

To say that I'm shocked is an understatement. Not about missionaries in the Islamic world, that we have known for hundreds of years all the way back to the Crusades and before. But the fact that it is so widely supported among people even non-missionaries. And their zeal and underhanded ways they do their "work". Whatever happenned to freedom of religion? I can't believe people support coercion of poverty-stricken, war-torn, vulnerable, hungry people in the guise of charitable good works. That's just morally wrong no matter what religion you are. The whole article is just disgusting...with an undertone of supporting all the evangelical work and praising those who die from anti-evangelical sentiment as heros.

We were arguing for months that the war on Iraq was not a crusade and not about Islam, but let's look at the facts now clearly.

"the Allied bombardment induced Muslims to question their god, 'we could say the war was a ripeness moment.'" says the head of one missionary org.

So now what does this mean for us? as Muslims we just need to wake up.. practice our deen better, and make sure no muslims are deluded.

"talking about Christ to children while distributing toys"

la hawla wala qawwata illa billah...

while we are fighting in our mosques...

And how some of the evangelicals love us, love us so much to forsake our deen... taken from the article
Over the next three hours, "Barbara," minus her burqa, dispensed lists of comparisons between Jesus and Muhammad ("Jesus arose from the dead and is alive. Muhammad is dead.") and of dos and don'ts of ministering to Muslims. (Do listen to their story. Don't argue about Israel.) She projected a statement by U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft on a screen: "Islam is a religion in which God requires you to send your son to die for him. Christianity is a faith in which God sends his son to die for you." After his comment was publicized in late 2001, Ashcroft said it referred to terrorists and not to mainstream Muslims, but the point seemed lost on her. "Islam is the terrorist," Barbara asserted. "Muslims are the victim." The class ended in prayer.

["We mourn the loss of life" in Iraq, someone said. Added Barbara: "We pray that the weapon of mass destruction, Islam, be torn down. Lord, we declare that your blood is enough to forgive every single Muslim. It is enough."
Yes they are deluding illiterate, needy, poverty-stricken people in the third world countries and i heard some did convert to christianity *sigh* :(

My brother's friend runs a garage, once few missionaries came to him and starting telling him the "good" things about christianity. When they were done he asked them to make him understand trinity, to this they replied "you should first join christianity and then you'll understand" !!!!. This Muslim guy insisted that if they (missionaries) can make him understand trinity he may join christianity, after hearing this a lady among the missionaries said "leave him, hes a fundamentalist" ???

That guy is mashAllah a practicing Muslim, he knew that christians are themselves confused about trinity. His final words to the missionaries were "yes i'm a fundamentalist and i'm proud of it". But there IS a dire need to help these illiterate, needy, poverty-stricken Muslims both financially and spiritually, i hope all of us realize it and let our actions speak louder than our words, ameen

       AsalamAlayKum,
Peace and e-Greetings be upon you..

I stopped reading TIME Magazine years ago...
( At the bookstore I might've picked it up and quickly read a complete article then return it to the rack though a few times over the years. )

I did learn something about the magazine itself.
It IS what 'Middle America' is thinking at any given moment.

So that's how I've 'used' TIME Magazine. I've listened to people when they
say 'I read about it in time,' or '...Time magazine said....'.

I haven't read this article and don't intend to go out and read it... I have different things
to do with my personal time that Allah SWT has given me.

I am confident though that there are millions of American Residents and Citizens
that also agree with the Qur'an Ayah that states 'la Ikra Fid Deen'.

There is no compulsion in the Life Transaction (Religion) .

I meet many of such people here in my Canadian City of Toronto.

They tell me they are disgusted with the behaviour of certain people
in occupied Iraq. I also recently found out that some of these people are
drawn to hang out with me BECAUSE I am such a visible and outspoken
     Muslim.

They feel safe being near or being associated with an observant muslim.

I was surprised at that. I hadn't expected it.

Allah, Glorified and Praised be He, will help us from sources we do not know.

     InshAllah, Amen.

So sad.

This has been happening for so long though...

But just like everything else, it took it this long for the media to pick up on it.

I mean there has been a WAVE of missionaries going to Africa for half a century or longer, for the sole purpose to convert muslims.  And it has been  highly successful, because they really find all these very decptive ways to convert Muslims.

All the schools, hospitals, and resources are owned/provided by these Missionaries to local people if and only if they will convert out of Islam.

How sad is that?

May Allah keep us within the folds of Imaan.  Ameen.

Wasalaam.

About African countries.... i heard a good news from the dawah jamaats. A very active da'ee who is a retired army officer was telling me that about 90% of those who converted to chritianity just for the reasons mentioned above have come to islaam again, alhamdolillah...

Allah knows best.... but even then there is a lot more work to be done
May Allah help us strive for that, ameen

Jannah thanks for posting this....I am horrified at the article  :o  This is so "haraam" and sinister!

However, and a bit off topic, since someone mentioned Africa, I wanted to make a few statements...the intention of the "missionary" work here was the same, but the general implementation was slightly different, although they used the same tactics...

It is well known that if you feed starving people, their hearts will incline towards you and they will listen to what you say and believe you!  This happened when the Muslims of Africa were starving. (note, it is still happening today) Who came to their rescue? The Christian missionaries.  They brought food, and with every food parcel, there was a bible and a picture of Christ with his flowing golden hair and blue eyes.  It didn't take the people long to get the association between the food that fed them when they had nothing else, and the people who happened to resemble the pictures that were becoming widely spread...

It works pretty well, the association is made between the golden haired man and food.  Then they tell you this man is God.  God provided the food, yes, this sounds right. He sure is merciful to send his bondsmen to help the starving.  The Christian god sent them food when the Muslim God did nothing...They begin to believe this, they convert to Christianity.  And what I have heard from my Ethiopian friend, these converts often become the biggest missionaries themselves!! :(

As an aside, another association is made simultaneously, i.e that between the "God" and the people that look just like him.  Instead of worshipping only the picture god, they tend to want to worship his alike-looking human living counterparts...the Native Americans called the white man "evil", the Africans called him "god"... ::)

I had heard rumours when the war in Afghanistan was still raging that the missionaries were just itching to get in there to "reform" the uncultured barbaric Afghans and teach them about Christ the saviour!  The same is happening in Iraq. May Allah protect us and the Imaan of all Muslims!

You know, I cannot blame the people who are starving for loving those who feed them so much tha they aim to be like them in all ways, including religion.  This is where we as Muslims have FAILED so majorly, may Allah swt help us.

Here in South Africa, the Muslim community has VAST resources.  A study recently showed that in one particular area, where the Muslims are the majority, they have the highest concentration of luxury cars per square kilometre than ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD! :o  We have so much money, but we do nothing of benefit with it. >:(

Imagine if the Muslims had brought food to the starving!  Would that not have inspired the poor people, would that not have increased their Faith, would that not have convinced them further of the Mercy of Allah swt, the One and Only true God, and the Truth of Islam, and the strength of Islamic brotherhood?  Ya Allah!!!  Imagine that!

Instead, what are we doing?  Forget the wasted money- think of all the divisions, all the in-fighting, all the volcanous disagreements about minor issues, all the hatred amongst us...

May Allah increase us in Imaan and increase our committment to His creation, Muslim and otherwise.

Wasalam

it has happened everywhere

from the indo-pak subcontinent to indonesia. we know the games they play, but why do we play in their hands.

al-Harmain foundation has had to pack up in pakistan because of harassment  from pak govt.

we are all to blame. the sub-continent was ruled by Muslims for a long time, yet they could not bring the shudars (untouchables) to Islam.

why?

because they kept Hindu customs, & looked upon the shudars as untouchables, although this is not islamic.

even today, in walima only the rich & powerful & friends will be invited, not the poor ones. if they are allowed at all, they would have to eat separately.
we have divided ourselves into catses, classes, communities of origin,

this is the crux: islam says: taqwa; we say: money & status in society.

we are far from islam. we need to do tauba
