| [slm] That time of the year again when people are graduating and the question pops in your head :-[ oh no what will i do when i go to get my certificate and the man wants to shake my hand??? Now i know there is an old thread somewhere....but i don't know how to find it....anybody do the honours? or any new suggestions/comments? [wlm] :-* |

| Just avoid going to the graduation, however if it's something very cruical for you, wear some bandage over your hand or somthing. :) |

| [slm] umm... yousef ?? go to ur graduation.. it's great dawah to see a muslimah up there.. just tell the people before hand that's all.. it's very easy to do that..or just clutch the certificate to yourself and when they come close just nod your head respectfully... |

| [slm] I agree to what sis jannah said i.e. (1) tell the people b4 hand (2) just nod your head by stepping back a litle. Well i would reject the hand of any lady and tell her that God does not allow me to do that and am a Muslim , no compromises. That can be dawah as well coz this may impress upon the person that we stand firm in our faith ! Its not related but here is what a friend of mine used to do in college when some girl occasionally out of her ignorance put her hand forward for a shake: [center][size=3] ** Namastaay ** [/size][/center] ::) Obviously in a taunting manner coz "both" were Muslims !! |

| [slm] Just say you are unable to do it...don't make a fuss about it. This one (non-muslim) girl extended her hand to this brother at our MSA booth on Orientation. The guy looked at her and said "I'm sorry I can't shake your hand because then I'll have to bury you when you die." ??? I can't decide whether that was REALLY funny or REALLY sad. Talk about anti-dawah. Just say you can't do it...if someone requires an explanation, which they probably will, tell them that your religion encourages modesty, and as a result, you are unable to shake hands with members of the opposite sex. (Tact and grace can be a useful skill.) Wasalaam. |
