My understanding is that it is not liked to close your eyes for prayers, one reason being that the eyes are worshipping also, and they are gazing on the site of prostration.

However, if there is something in the room that will distract you, some scholars have recommended to close your eyes.

According to hanafi ulema one may close his/her eyes if it helps in concentration. However if it brings sleepiness or other thoughts eyes should be left open.

It is recommended to pray with the eyes open... (i think its sunnah)...

i got this from a web site

Can one close his eyes during prayer? I have the problem of easy attention distraction during prayer and many times I forget how many Ruka I have prayed

It is not desirable to close one's eyes and offer Salaat. But if, by closing his eyes, a person is able to concentrate better, then one may semi-close his eyes.
