[glow=red,2,300]one of the ways of da'wa is by having one, and to keep it long, and not to cut it,[/glow]

im just sayin cause us brothas want to be kewl, and to do tht we cant be wat other ppl call us "terrarist" so be strong and do that!!!
that goes for the mens dress as well,

[glow=red,2,300]the greatest jihad is the jihad of the nafs, where u do things opposite from what your desires want!!![/glow]

*i mean, look at the muslim weman out there, they should be our role modules, they are stong, and are ready for the public, so brothas, we call our selves strong, what about the our inside, is that strong, or are we just covering it from the outside to hide our identity!!!!

Just a small correction, if I may. The greatest Jihaad isn't the Jihaad of the nafs - that hadeeth which alot of people quote these days is, in fact, weak. The narrator, Yahya ibn al-‘Ala’, is described by Ahmad bin Hanbal as “a liar and forger of ahadith”. Ibn Hajar Asqalani says “he was accused of forging ahadith”. Moreover, this narration contradicts the many authentic ahadith which prove the clear understanding of Jihaad.
And Allaah (swt) knows best.

Other than that, good post.

wasalaamun 'alaykum.

Many people take a simplistic one-dimensional view of Jihad where as it must be evaluated on two-dimensions.

The two dimensions are importance and reward. Both these metrics must be used to evaluate any kind of Jihad.

To explain I will divide jihad into 3 broad categories, jihad of the nafs, dawah and qitaal fi sabillillah (war in the way of Allah).

1. Jihad of the nafs is the greatest in importance but the least in reward amongst the 3 types. It is most important  because EVERY muslim must do it ALL the time.

2. Qitaal fi sabillilah has the greatest reward for it demands the biggest sacrifice. However it is done under certain conditions (like opression) and by some of the Muslims  and hence in that sense it is less important than jihad of the nafs. Also since jihad of the nafs is a sort of pre-requisite to this kind of jihad it occupies a lesser position on the importance metric most of the time.

3. Dawah is between those two. Jihad of the nafs is a co-requisite for this i.e. must be done along with this. Dawah must be done ALL of the time but NOT by everyone at once. Hence it is between the other two types in importance and in reward.

This is what I learned from listening to lectures by Dr. Israr Ahmad. He explained it much better with relevant sources ofcourse.

Br Muhd, & SIs Stranger.... U reminded me of a reminder a brother once told me...

If we can't do jihad by sacrificing our time, energy, money, sleep, pleasure etc for Allah...

What makes us think we can sacrifice our life for Him?

Wassalam

==================
P.S. Why do brothers with beards always make a big deal about beards?

That is EXACTLY why jihad of the nafs is the MOST important. Without it other kinds of jihad are not really possible. If you ponder over the 2-dimensional picture I explained your questions will be answered inshAllah.

Just a general note. If someone finds Muhammad too long to type they can call me Ahmed but please do not write Muhammad as Mohd or Muhd or M or Mo.

Thanks.

Assalamu 'alaikum,

[quote]P.S. Why do brothers with beards always make a big deal about beards?   [/quote]

Maybe because the importance of beard is very often underestimated. I probably mentioned it before as well somewhere on this board that beard is 'Waajib' according to all 4 school of thoughts. There is difference of opinion amongst scholars on the lenght of beard, but there is no difference of opinion on having the beard itself. Every act of sunnah should be appreciated. Now, different people have different ways of showing their appreciation. Some use hikmah, some do not. I try not to show any discrimination when talking to 2 brothers, one of which has a beard and the other doesn't , but, I definitely do feel differently when talking to one with the beard. It naturally gives u a feeling that the person with the beard has a better understanding of his deen, he has more capability to follow his deen and hence u can associate urself better with a brother with beard rather than with the one who doesn't have. Although, I do understand that it may not be true in every case, but again its about feelings. Similarly, I feel very uncomfortable talking to a Muslimah who is not properly covered and I am quite comfortable talking to a sister who is properly covered. Beard and hijab are 2 different things, but I am using the example of hijab because maybe it can help u understand it better. Should we brothers and sisters (who do not cover) belittle the covering of sisters? Absolutely not. Shouldn't the sisters, who cover, make a big deal about their covering? They should. Shouldn't the brothers and sisters show their support for an act of righteousness, for an act of sunnah?. Definitely, we should. Now, 'how' we make a big deal about it, that's a different issue. Again, its a hikmah, non-hikmah issue. So, as far as actions are concerned, we should try our  best not to 'show' any discrimination between our Muslim brothers and sisters, but, sometimes feelings give way naturally and brothers (with beard) end up making a big deal of the beard. Maybe they end up saying something they shouldn't, or they say it the way they shouldn't. Allahu A'lam. My apologies if I said something that any of u dislike, but fact is fact. There is a clear demarcation between right and wrong here.

Wassalam.

Salaams,

It's the same with you sisters you make a big deal about hijaabs, something that you love. We love the beard thats why we love to talk about it. And by us keeping beards we encourage each other to keep a beard. Trust me in Kufrastan or in the so called Muslim countries its not easy wearing a hijaab or  a beard. The least that we can do is support each other.

as salaamu alaykum,

I think sometimes there is too much emphasis put on these external things, and not on cultivating the internal state of heart and mind that would make a person *seek* the pleasure of Allah by doing things that He loves and is pleased with.

Also was just speaking with some sisters about how easy it is for us to judge others based on what we see of them.. when truly Allah alone knows what people struggle with, what deeds they reveal and what they conceal.

w'Allahu a'lam

wasalaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllah
