Need advice for umrah?

Assalamualaikum

First of all i'd like to say how amazing this site is mashallah and how it has helped me
incredibly. I'm a 17 year old sister from michigan and it seems that whenever i would
have any problems or whenever i'd be loosing faith in my self or my beliefs posts such as
the one jannah posted in the tazkiyah waterfall of the person who went to the retreat, or
just any reflections from the retreat really help me to get back up and start praying or
just remembering Allah.

The thing is that i'm going to go to make the lesser pilgrimage and it seems that i feel
like i'm not really being a good muslim, there are times where i just don't feel like
praying or reading Quran. I mean i KNOW it's wrong and that i should pray but somehow the
feeling of WANTING to just doesn't come to me. Before i'd be able to wake up for fajr and
read Quran and pray and be able to concentrate but know  i feel like i'm just drowning
more and more in my sins and desires :( . i once read some posts on this site about people
who went for hajj and umrah and how much it affected them personally ( i think that post
was from lightningatnight and a few other people...ya it was) and subhanullah i had givin
up praying , and the FIRST thing that i did after i read that post was that i literally
got up and ran to pray my Duhur prayer and repented to Allah. That's how much it affected
me. I really want to change and I feel like this is my chance and taht i can repent and
get closer to Allah but i just can't get motivated :(. If you have any personal
experiences of pilgrimage please share and if you can maybe post up a link of the posts i was
talking about please please do so. Another thing is that i'm not really sure how u perform it
i have some thoughts but i'm not sure if there correct. And what are things that i
definitely should or should not do when i go there. Some duas or prayers. I will definitely
keep All of you in my prayers and duas ,  as u guys have helped me so much over the past
years by ur posts, whether they be poems, articles, or just advice given to people.
Jazakullah in advance. please keep me in ur duas. Assalamualaikum

Sister, does your mahram not have any ideas of how to perform Umrah you could speak to him??

Alhumdulillah you can't help but be motivated when you are there, subhanallah hearing the adhaan in Makkah and Medina you leave a piece of your heart behind when you return.....
Besides which with everyone going to the masjid al haram at prayer times you can't not go, the shops all close and everyone heads towards the masjid.

It's really awesome, for the first time in my life I actually had a tangible experience of what it was like to be one of the ummah. When you are in Makkah after Esha prayers stand on the top most tier of the masjid and look down on the people doing the tawaf, it's like a sea of people, you feel so small and insignificant and yet so proud to be one of these people who have all come together to worship Allah Subhana Tallah.

Don't lose heart dear sister, remember when you draw near to Allah an arms length he draws near to you a fathoms length, and if you go to him walking he comes to you at speed.

The important thing is to shake off the ennui and perform your salat at the beginning times. You can then carry on with whatever afterwards. Inshallah it will get easier for  you.

Love and Duaas.

Wasalaam

Asalaamu Alaikum Sister ;-)

One personal experience of Umrah which is definately worth a read is our Br Abdul Basir's visit to Masjid al Haram last year. The link to the thread is below.

Sr Jannah has a great page on this site on Hajj and tips and tricks for performing Umrah so that's definately worth checking out. ;-)

InshaAllah I'll post a few more Hajj experiences from those who have been on the board once I navigate my way through the Ark properly ;-)

sister  anonyomus
making  umrah  is  not  so  hard  with  hard  regulations  .it  is so  simple  . even  if  you   dont  know  how to  preform  , but  i think  your  Mahram  (as  sister  fozia  said )can  help you . but l suppose   he is  also  in  need  of help  like  you . just  both  of  you    soon as  you  reach  there  .you   will  find  lots  ways  to   guide  you ..

let me  tell  you  how   as simple  as it  is

You  can    wear  the ihram( the close for  umrah) from  your  destination  or  at  the  plane  you  will be  informed  when  u reach at  the  point   where  you  can  start  making  preparation  , so  that  u can  go  to  makkah  directly  from the  airport  of jeddah   .. it  is  less  than  1 hr  driving  .   you  will  enter  the  masjed al  haram  from  any  gate  ,

1 .you  will  make  the  tawaf  seven  times .. the  starti ng  point  is marked  with  brown  color ...so  is easy  to find  it
during  the tawaf  you  can  make any  dua  from  your  heart ....you will  find  people reading from  a  book  but  that  is  not  neccesary ..make a  direct  communication   with  ALLAH  and  that  is  the best  way  ....no  matter what   the  language  you  suplicate    allah  is  . in english  or what ever .  that is why  i  told  u  it  is not  necessary  to  read  from a book  ( it  is  in arabic) in case  this is    not convenient  ..even  the  scholars   tell  it  is  recommended    reading the  dua  from  the  heart ..

well  i  got  a good  news for  you

the  more  the  harder  for the  person  the   more  the  AJER  is

2  after  this  seven rounds is  over  you  will go  to  the SAEE   the  seven  rounds  between SAFA  and  MARWAH
i dont  know  if  u are aware  of  not  cutting  her  before  the  umrah is  over
but any way  ,this  may be  the  only thing  u  dont  have  to  do . and after  the  seven  rounds of  walking  between  SAFA and MARWAH   is  complete  . you  will  cut  just  very vey very  little  hair from  the ends   ( it is very  little , so dont  worry ) i don  think    that  hair  you  will  cut  weighs  2 grams

and  that  is all  .

if  you  need  more  details  ,well  i  am  here  to  add  some  clarification  .
just  ask  your  brother

and good  luck  sister

Assalamu 'alaikum,

Sister Anon., I cannot emphasize enough how great a blessing it is to visit Allah (swt)'s House, specially at such a young age of 17. Perhaps, u understand that better than any of us. 'Umrah itself can be done in 2 hours or even less than that, but usually the Saudi embassy allows u a stay of 15 days there in Saudi Arabia. I just wanted to advise u that u should maximize ur stay there, try to spend as much time as possible in masjid Al-Haraam itself rather than stay in ur hotel or go out and waste ur time in shopping, eating, and even sleeping. I'll briefly write my experience, and would suggest u to do the same. When I was there, I used to stay awake all night, and spend my time there in Masjid Al-Haraam, either praying the nawafils, reciting Qura'an or the least, just sit and keep looking at the Ka'abah, and do some dhikr, for that itself has profound effect on the heart and u'll get ajr for that too. I used to pray Tahajjud in Haram, pray Fajr and then wait for sometime until its time for Duha prayers, I would pray that and by that time I would be completely exhausted, so I would go to my hotel to sleep then. Then wake up for Dhuhr, and stay awake till the next morning if u can, and stay in Masjid Al-Haraam for 'Asr, Maghrib and 'Isha. I would go to my hotel after 'Isha for dinner. U can have some more rest either between Dhuhr and 'Asr, or between 'Asr and Maghrib, or maybe even after 'Isha if u don't get enough rest/sleep between Duha and Dhuhr. By staying awake at night, u not only get to pray tahajjud, but also to kiss the Hajra-e-Aswad (The Black Stone), since there are very few people doing the tawaaf at night, specially between 2-4 a.m. Also, the scholars recommend to perform nafil tawaafs of Ka'abah as much as possible, rather than try to do as many 'umrahs as possible. Try to read about how and what to do in 'umrah beforehand, so that u don't end up doing things that are not recommended in sunnah or were never done by Prophet Muhammad (saw). There are several misconceptions about certain things while performing 'umrah.
Just to reiterate, please avoid spending a LOT of time on shopping, eating, sleeping etc. U must realize that ur each and every second there is very precious, and visiting the House of Allah is supposed to be a means of guidance for us, so spend as much time possible in Haram itself, keeping urself busy with 'ibaadah of Allah (swt) whichever way possible.
I pray that may Allah (awj) make it easy for u , give u all the taufeeq to do His 'ibaadah as is supposed to be done, and may Allah (awj) accept it from u and ur family/companions. And, please, pray for us too that all of us get to visit His House ASAP (specially me), as we all are in continuous need of hidaayah.

Wassalamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullah.

Remember Sister sometimes the reward for a good deed is the ability to do another good deed so the more you strive the easier it will become inshaAllah.

Hope the links help ;-)

And sis be careful while trying to kiss "Hajr-e-aswad" as people get really squeezed while trying to do that, i recall that this arab brother who was of my height (6+) and was twice as strong as me, was trying to do it while there were lots of people doing tawaaf but got sandwiched, uttered a loud KHALLAS and gave up ... the thought makes me laugh at times :).... heh but me kissed "Hajr-e-aswad" twice (alhamdolillah) was even going to do it third time but just had to give up, its TOOOOOOOOOOUGH specially in Ramdhan!

so be careful
