Sis yumna, "International House of Kebab" is not a good place, specially that Harry Potter thread, so i advice you as a brother in islam to not to go there...

Take good care sis and i hope you'll pay heed to the advice

There are alot of different opinions about Harry Potter by Muslims and there is someone who asked an Imam about it briefly.  Here's where you can read about it: http://www.jannah.org/cgi-bin/madina/YaBB.pl?board=kabob;action=display;num=1056485140

Before I saw the first Harry Potter movie I was so against it just because of what the concept of the movie was - from what I heard. But then after I saw it I thought it was great. I've seen it a kazzillion times and I'm 27! ( I feel like an old lady sometimes  ;) ) Anyway, I think sometimes people take things way toooooo seriously. I mean kids are smarter than we imagine them to be. You just need to explain to them what's haram and what isn't. They'll surprise you. My daughter, who also loved it, kept telling me about certain scenes which were Islamically wrong.

Since I've seen a few harry potter posts, I wanted to see what teh big deal was since I'm no fan.

But get this, I'm freinds with the Imam's wife.  She speaks broken english like Mom, but was able to get a BA in CS from the University so it's the annunciation thing, I think, that gets her.  Anyways, get this...

The Imam's wife loves Harry Potter and the movies.  In fact, when ever I want to do something real fun with her, one of things is treat her to a Harry Potter movie.  I even drove 40 minutes to make this happen.  40 minutes because when I found out that she was a fan of the books, it was like 5-6 months after the first movie came out and so I looked for a theatre that still had it going.  It was a nice theatre, 3 bucks a ticket, 40 minutes away.

She enjoyed it and I love watching her smile.  The Imam knew about it.  No sexual content so I figured, if the Imam knew about it and his wife is a fan, it's not that bad.  So we'er all waiting for the next movie.

Ma-asalaama.....

PS....You got me curious now.  Now I have to check out this Kabob thread.

I've been over to the Kabob House and was expecting to discuss the latest book.  however, i was a little disappointed by the thread which was basically about not discussing harry potter with the reasons why.  why have a Kabob House which discusses literature, movies etc and yet doesnt discuss the worldwide phenomenon of Potter?  well, i see the word Islamic prefixed so i guess i've answered my own question.  Whatever.
