illuminate me

as salaamu alaykum,

Isn't it the case that sometimes a line of poetry or bit from a song sticks in your mind and you think and think and think about it, but you can't seem to capture a glimpse of it's full meaning and depth?

Happens to me a lot.. does it happen to anyone else?  I thought maybe we could post up some lines like this, and help each other understand what things mean :)

Here's some words from a song by Dawud Wharnsby Ali that always get me thinking... any ideas about it's meaning?

Silent Sunlight

silent sunlight welcome in
there is work I must now begin
all my dreams have blown away
and the children wait to play
they'll soon remember things to do
when the heart is young and the night is done and the sky is blue

La ilaaha illAllah

morning song birds sing away
lend a tune to another day
bring your wings and choose a roof
sing a song of love and truth

we'll soon remember if you do
when all things were tall
and our friends were small
and the world was new

La ilaaha illAllah

sleepy horses heave away
put your backs to the golden hay
don't ever look behind at the work you've done
for your work has just begun

there'll be the evening in the end
but till that time arrives
you can rest your eyes
and begin again

La ilaaha illAllah

The words seem to talk about going through hardship and
times of sadness, depression and/or bereavement.

They further imply that the person affected by this (who
might as well be the author/singer) is :

a) no longer awed by beautiful aspects of life ( silent
sunlight

b) tries to focus on the work ahead in hopes of overcoming
current sadness
c) remembers days of innocence and simplicity to alleviate
current low feelings, momentarily, perhaps
d) attempts to reach peace within, to allow life to go on

I think.

Aah, good ol Br Dawud :)

His love for children jus permeates his songs, and is soo adorable  :-*

Maybe “dreams” just refers to the twilight zone we float in at night…then sunlight quietly filters in, and lights up the real world, where the day’s work waits to be commenced...

From the dawn light's wake-up call through the windows, to joyful morning toils, to hard evening labours...and as the body begins to ache and the spirit to sag, the prospect of more work after that...

How dull it would seem without children! Young eyes ever staring excitedly at the great, eternally sunlit world of adventure about them, no toil so remorseless that play is not imminent, no night so persistent as to take away blue skies for long...

…and pure hearts that sing the fundamental truth around which all life, all love, all labour revolves:

La ilaha illa Allah!

Work, play and perspective...that’s what I think of when I hear that nasheed anyway... :P

This song is very deep... I thought it was about how we shouldn't look back on our lives and think we've done such great things but we should start each day by doing more stuff .. . hence the verses

don't ever look behind at the work you've done
for your work has just begun
there'll be the evening in the end
but till that time arrives
you can rest your eyes
and begin again

i don't get these at all

silent sunlight welcome in
there is work I must now begin
all my dreams have blown away
and the children wait to play
they'll soon remember things to do
when the heart is young and the night is done and the sky is blue

and these

we'll soon remember if you do
when all things were tall
and our friends were small
and the world was new
La ilaaha illAllah
sleepy horses heave away
put your backs to the golden hay

whoaaaaa... calling all poet type ppl........... jaihoon.. mystic??? if even se7en is stumped i don't feel bad ;)
