Mehndi! Mehndi! Mehndi!

The other day i wore some mehndi (henna) on my hand, (my cousins walimah's comming up!)  ;D
and i had it done on my left hand. You can't do anything properly with one hand!!!! it was soo annoying.
like going to the bathroom, and brushing your teeth and changing your clothes, and other things.
Alhamdullilah, makes you so grateful that you have two hands to go about daily life  :-*

How many of you like wearing mendhi?
and do you do anything to it to make the colour extra dark? I did but i'll tell you all later if you tell me  :D
how do you become a mehndi pattern expert?  ;)

[wlm]

p.s i hate the smell!

yes i love wearing mehndi but i dont love the smell!

well whenever the mehndi starts to shed that seems to be a good sign and seems to get darker that way. I personally dont put anything, but i know people will put ilachi ka oil, chunna, and if you are making your own mehndi people mix it with  black tea water to make it darker.

practice and more practice. Also you can start off my copying designs or also maybe if you are a real beginner start drawing over the designs with pen. or drawing w/ the mehndi cone on paper.

i have heard sisters put a combination of honey and lemon, sugar n water , and oil.. But i could perhaps be mixing things up!! But my experience is that it all depends on what mehndi you get stuck with.. The fresher the better :)!! WE have this awesome lady here who makes home made mehndi, it works wonders!! And for patterns it's always good to have artistic friends around  ;)

We add clove oil as well as coffee and tamarind paste. Then we rub in eucalyptus oil on the area that the mehndi will be applied. Seems to do the trick.

What you can do is go to various mehendi design places and print out the designs and make yourself a little book of designs you can mix and match from..

The newest thing in mehendi... jewel colors... like dark blue, dark purple, etc and different color glitter and beads mixed in to go with your wedding dress.. It's hot stuff ;) What's cool also is the black henna...(but don't buy the ppd black henna which has chemicals that burn the skin)

I'll put a few pics if I can find them

I think it's just like body glitter glue in a squeeze out tube that comes in different colors.. and you intersperse that with the mehendi design... and also they sell like little packages of little beads and sparkly things that are like stickers to intertwine with the mehndi design as well.. Talk about artistry  :-*

wow! some of these techniques in making your mehndi darker, i got to try out  :)
The one i usually use is the lemon juice mixed in sugar.
You get a little bit of lemon juice and add a little bit of sugar and then dab it onto your mehndi when its dry.
Also the longer you leave it on, the darker. If your leaving it on over night you can put a plastic bag on top, one of those small sandwich bags, and then hold it in place with an elastic band on your wrist.
The plastic bag is soo uncomfortable, it makes your hand all steamy, but thats meant to happen because the steam keeps the mehndi moist and helps the colour get darker, so they say.

sis jannah jazakallah khair so much for those sites, i've printed some of the mendhi patters, and i'm gonna make my own copies of them inshallah   :-*

[slm] Ukhtis...

Here's what I do (and I love Mendhi but could never get the designs right)  We let it stand for hours and hours, sometimes over night (if you can sleep sitting up) but we add lime juice and then after washing it off, we rub our hands in rice.  Brings it to a nice color.

Wierd though, some men like it and some don't.

But I like that sparkle stuff.   I'm going to try all that stuff.

Ma-asalaama.....

What is mehndi? It is something similar to henna? I remember when I was in high school that these little jewls people put on their foreheads, between the eyes kind of, and on their eye lids for 'eye liner' was called mehndi. I think it was anyways. Maybe I'm just confused...

Yeahh i actually just came across the glittery Mehndi couple months ago and was AMAZED!! he he my first encounter with it was at this convention, where this sister had is on and it was soo bright and not too much so didn't look tacky and the pattern was intertwined with the regular mehndi.. soo we asked her, where she got it and it was actually a temporary tattoo!! And it was dark!! usually they have a faded look to them..
And one of our friends just got married in India and we were going through her pictures.. subhan'Allah her Mehndi was beautiful!! and ofcourse the new glittery kind!! :)
**So yup gotta try it  :-X

Mehndi and Henna are the same thing.. Henna is referred to Mehndi in Urdu/Hindi.. The jewels people put on their forehead are called "Bindi's", mostly hindu women wear them!! but of course it was pretty hot in hollywood for a lil bit... the Eyelid stuff i think was the same thing but i remember when i was high school they had different color mascaras or something like that.. but i hope this helps :)

I love mehndi although sleeping the whole night with your hand stuck in a plastic bag is not much fun! What I mix my mehndi with is black tea and eucalyptus oil although I've noticed that it all depends on a persons skin and body- for examplr my mendhi comes out really dark while my mum, even though we use the same stuff and for the same time, hers isnt as dark.Does anyone else notice this?
