A Lonely Heart

A lonely heart yearning,
What for? Not indeed a partner
Through a lonely hearts’ column,
Would that it were as simple.

This heart seeks light,
Unlike any other light -
One that blazes forth like a signal
From those who have already found it.

This heart seeks peace, from the suffering …
     …of greed
     …of hatred
     …of anger.

This heart embraces the pain …
     …of taqwa
     …of repentance
     …of joy.

This heart is one which spirals
Down, and down - further and further,
In a freefall as though it is doomed
To smash upon the ground
In a million fragments…yet…
At times this heart seems to
Sprout wings
Fly
Soar
Like a bird,
Rising, and rising -
Attempting to reach the light,
The light upon light,
Of the One who created it,
On a day of no escape,
A day of unimaginable joy
     And unimaginable pain.

Thanks for sharing that, it basically dexribes how I'm feeling at the mo.  Mash'Allaah I cant believe there are so many of us who are experiencing stuff like this.  I felt that I was the only one who was going through something like this and I felt so lonely  :(, but alhumdulilah I've met others on here who seem to be exeperiencing similar stuff, though I'm sure we're all at a different level to each other.

I think this maybe should go in the tazkiyah section, but I really related to this, so thanks  :)

I feel like I'm hearing the song the caged bird sings...

Stalking in the narrow space of Heedlessness, seldom able to see through his bars of rage, wings clipped and feet tied by societal "freedoms", his once beautiful form made fat and soft with over-indulgence and feeding, his eyes raw with constant satiation of lust...(simply_sister I jus loved that poem  ;D)

One, some or all of the above sound familiar? Maybe that's why we experience similar things...

We're caged birds, given wings but crawling through life...brief flutters, beginnings of flight as we strive to better ourselves, but falling once more when our courage to just do what we know is right fails...

Movement is life, knowedge is stability, practice is flight...and procrastination is death. A bird instinctively knows all of this, and puts it into practice without much further thought. Why should a bird be better than us?

And I jus realised I ended up answering Nomi's question about that Rumi thang... ;)

May I get permission to qoute these words? They are beautiful. I will ofcourse mention they are by 'chiq' whenever I qoute them unless you inform of your first name or something.

You may quote them, but minus the "Chiq" ;D

Glad you found something of benefit, marginal clarity of word is a consolation for chaos of mind...

Sis that was a good answer but that Rumi thing is deeper, i've interpreted that in a different way ( each of their own ). Can't express!

Ya know, I was actually wondering about using the word "answered" in my post...I was initially going to use "contributed to", then deleted it, then "referred to", then thought - forget the pomposity - "answered will do...!  ;D

But you're absolutely right, br Nomi - little me can't claim to be "interpreting" something as profound as such a saying by Mawlana Rumi... :o
