[slm] Had to throw this (subject line) at some friends who were irking me with this discussion on specs of their systems. Man! there are so many high tech graphic cards and stuff these days that its crazy... and people really change their system specs fast!!! So, how often do you get your hardware changed ? Any special hardware/card you got in that box? what are the specs btw ? Oh, dont forget to mention that whether your system can fly or not :P i'll post my answers later .......... to shock you bad !! [slm] Heh nice post, well no box isn't something totally out of this world. I am not the type of guy who believes in using bleeding edge hardware. Software on the other hand ... So here's what I'm running AMD 800Mhz Duron MSI K7-T Motherboard 512MB PC133 SDRAM 160GB 7200RPM Maxtor Drive with an 8MB buffer @ UDMA-133 Hitachi 16x DVD-ROM Drive Sony 16x CD-R with an 8MB buffer Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti4200 64MB RAM w/TV-Out Alhamdulilah, built the box myself. Honestly I will never buy an OEM box again insha Allah. I tell all my friends and family to 'build your own', once you do you'll never go back ... I usually get a new CPU every 3 or 4 yrs. Yeah I know that's a very very very long time in CPU advancements but the way I see is that it takes at least that long for any decent software to come out that'll take some advantage of those wasted CPU cycles. And no I won't run SETI@HOME, it's a conspiracy and there are no aliens :P Video card I upgrade every 2 years. Drive space, whenever I fill up my current drive, I went 2 yrs with my first drive before getting the 160GB one. Insha Allah my next box will look like this AMD Opteron 5Ghz 64-bit CPU 2GB DDR?? RAM 500GB Serial-ATA HardDrive DVD +/- R/RW Drive 512MB Video Card ??????? |

[slm] WoW ! 80 GB and 160 GB harddisks! What do you people do with that much space? I have a 30 GB HD and I dual boot Linux and Win XP and I still have tons of free space! I can't seem to use it up! I don't think I am gonna run out of space ever (inshAllah)! What do you guys do with such big hard disks? |

[slm] When I was buying my system, 30 gig drives weren't around anymore. The price difference between 40, 60, and 80 gig drives was such that buying 80 gigs gave you most bang for the buck. 120 gig and higher were a little expensive though. Believe me, when you have hard disk space, you find ways to fill it up. Btw, any tips on upgrading the stock CPU cooling fan, anyone? |

[slm] Well before I start I just wanna see, the fellow geek sisters out there (and yes they DO exist :) are more than welcome to join in on the topic. As for cooling, recently I built a barebones Shuttle SK41g box for my sister and it came with this thing called an ICE heatpipe. It's basically a heatsink with 4 or 5 pipes about 5 or 10 cm apart from each other. The pipes are bent at about a 60 degree angle and at the end there are sheets of metal about 1cm apart stuck on the heatpipes which you can put behind a fan. You can find pretty good fans out there, i recommend something along the order of 3-4K RPM for using with a heatpipe. They are a bit expensive, and depending on the material (copper, versus titanium alloys) it can put a dent in your wallet. But if you're die hard OCer then a heatpipe is definetly the way to go short of getting some liquid nitro coolant through your system. P.S: Nice box you got there Bhaloo, can i take it for a spin ;) [quote author=superFOB link=board=media;num=1057868501;start=0#5 date=07/12/03 at 07:30:44][slm] Btw, any tips on upgrading the stock CPU cooling fan, anyone?[/quote] |

[slm] heh.. all you bros with your high tech stuff and no body with those oldy goldies has replied. You ppl must have thought that i have got a dream machine on my hands :P. Well infact i bought this "super computer" some 6 years back, it rarely crashed on me and has become a "first love" so i can't let go of it ;) Its a Pentium ONE 200 "em em ex" machine :P with 2.1 GIGA <= you hear that GIGA BYTE of storage space in it ;D During studies mostly i used computers at uni, now at my workplace i've got this P3 machine that supports all the heavy softwares (and games that i used to play with my colleagues eg. Quake II ; Unreal Tournament etc). So no worries as i just want my PC to support the basic stuff. This system is the oldest thing among my friends'... bro Hanif try to beat THAT [slm] Asim Zafar :) |

AsalamAlayKum, Peace and e-Greetings be upon you... Commodore VIC-20 8 K ROM 8 K RAM Tape Drive (can use regular audio cassettes as storage medium) Keyboard with funny graphics that if you press the CTRL key and that letter, you can see it Oh, and it's in COLOUR! You know, I don't know if this even exists...but... did Recitation of the Qur'an ever appear on 8-track cassettes? I do know for a fact that the FIRST audio cassette recordings of the Qur'an to appear was actually the FIRST decree of the Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto when he became CMLA of Pakistan (Chief Marshall Law Administrator). Our family had a set of the tapes. Anyway, Does anyone have any Vic-20 games to trade? Anyone? |
