TORONTO: Labour Day Weekend-INTEREST-FREE SEMINAR?

          AsalamAlayKum,
          Peace and e-Greetings be upon you.

          I have decided not to humiliate myself at the U.S. Border this Labour Day
          weekend as INS usually wastes the usual 30 to 45 minutes of my life until
          they determine that yep, I'm just a regular boring dude...

         Hence, I'm skipping the ISNA convention for the second year in a row...

         BUT America's loss is TORONTO's gain...

         Anyone wanna volunteer to help pull together a Labour Day Islamic Conference
         of own here in Toronto?

        I've already approached one masjid and they're lukewarm to the idea.

        I can volunteer to do speak on Islamic Banking and why Riba sucks.

        Anyone?

       Anyone ?

     Thoughts?

        Ideas?

          Suggestions?

              Bagels?

                     Doughnuts?

         Post a message here and let's see what can be done InshAllah...

       Your bro in T.O.,

         ~ HiMY! ~

Why would you have it on Labor Day wkend??!!  It interferes with ISNA.

Don't do that...

I'll help out if I'm available (which means you should do it some other time)...and I would reeeeeeeeeally love to be a part of it.  Also, I know someone who started this interest-free banking thing in Toronto...kinda famous...so if you need help, yeh?  lemme know.

No bagels, no doughnuts...we'll cater from the Somali restaurant on Bond Street....yummmmmmm-ayyyyyyyyyy.

Wasalaam.

         AsalamAlayKum,
         peace and e-Greetings be upon you.

         I am NOT attending ISNA Convention in Chicago this year.

         I am tired of being harrassed by the U.S. border guards every time I enter the U.S.

         Other Muslims in Toronto Feel the same way.

         So...

         Not to feel left out on Islamic Activities on this Labour Day Long Weekend
         here in Toronto for all those of us who will be by choice remaining in Toronto....

         I came up with this idea.

         I love Chicago.

        It's where My old school the American Islamic College is http://www.AICusa.edu

        I love the 35,000 plus Muslims who show up and I always end up selling
        something in the Bazaar....

        Sigh....

        JustOne.... That's why.

Assalamu Alaikum,

I say its well-worth the border harassment... man it's ISNA! When the Ottawans went to the retreat, we went down in two large vans (on different days) and two other small cars (on two other occasions). The two vans both got stopped for 1.5 hours. Was it worth it? *ABSOULTELY...* Even if I was stopped and harassed at the border for 24 hours I'd still go.

Come on HiMY... inshaaAllaah it's a kafaarah (means of being purified from your sins), and if it's for the sake of Allaah (swt) inshaaAllaah He will facilitate.

Wallaahu ta'aala A'lam,
Wassalamu Alaikum,

Deen :-)

Okay bro HiMY, I have to share an inspirational story with you.  I mean, this one's specifically for you...(there's hope yet for you  ;) )

~~~
Ontario boy, 7, crosses border unnoticed
'I turned around and he was gone'
U.S. police pick up young visitor
A 7-year-old Canadian boy wandered unnoticed over the Whirlpool Bridge into the United States this weekend despite heightened border security.
Mitchel Hernder, of Niagara Falls, Ont., was found two hours after he went missing Saturday afternoon.
"Thank God he wasn't a terrorist," said Lieutenant Sal Pino of the Niagara Falls, N.Y. police. "It was a security violation, a 7-year-old should not have been allowed into the country."
Police officer John Conte found the boy several kilometres from the border, standing in the middle of a six-lane street, after getting a call from a motorist.
Mitchel, who is mildly autistic, had his name, address and phone number memorized.
"It's not often you pick up a missing child from another country," Conte told CFTO.
The boy's parents had earlier locked his bike in their garage as a punishment for wandering off without telling them.
Mitchel took his sister's bike out at about 3:45 p.m., and rode about 2 1/2 kilometres to the border crossing.
The boy told police that when he saw a "No Bicycles Allowed" sign at the border, he threw the bike over the bridge and continued on foot.
Pino said there are three ways of getting through the border at that site, "but he should have been noticed no matter how he got across."
When the Hernders discovered Mitchel was missing, they started looking in neighbours' backyards and called the police.
They were especially concerned because the boy had a habit of befriending everyone, said his father Mark Hernder.
"He has to be watched constantly," Hernder said in a telephone interview. "I turned around and he was gone, we were going nuts."
When he arrived at the police station, his son was happily playing on the computer and sipping a pop. "It was a great adventure as far as (Mitchel) was concerned."
NO.
It's not worth the harassment, the humilation, the stupid HiMY-is-less-than-Human because he's 1. Muslim and 2. a Brown dude Canadian with no accent who knows his hockey stats. and 3. It's the Islamic Society of NORTH America... why don't they Have ISNA Convention in CANADA for once....?
Oh..
it's because too many AMERICAN muslims don't wanna cross the Canuck border....
I see.
Let's see... being stopped for 24 hours... it's a 6 hour flight to Guantanimo from Detroit Metro Airport... 1 hour for them to find an orange jumpsuit in my size.... another 2 hours to debate whether I'm british or Canadian since I'm both and so within If I was held for 24 hours....I don't think it's worth it at all....
(P.S. we don't want them to cross the canuck border...most of them end up staying   ;) )
         AsalamAlayKum,
         Peace and e-Blessings/e-Greetings be upon you...
         If there were 5 millions in the United States....
         They would be lost and scattered across the 260 million fellow U.S. residents.
          IF there were 5 million muslims within Canada's population of 31 million or ADDED
         to Canada's population, well, InshAllah, Canada would have Shariah somewhere
        instead of recently legalized sodomite marriages....
        So, I think ISNA should, nay, I say ISNA MUST have a labour day convention
       here in Toronto...
       Either that or in Havana.
