Nice.  Cause I've got a problem.  I'm no mechanic but how do I fix my gas pedal that keeps sticking everytime I don't use my car for a few hours.  Cause when it sticks, I have to push a little harder and the VROOOOOM it goes.  Scares the dayilghts out of me cause what if....

My husband says it's no big deal, but I wonder his intent sometimes.....JUST KIDDING.  He just doesn't want me to bring it to the shop.

Assalamu 'alaikum,

Not sure if I can help u but I have done the following with the help of a friend:

1. Changed oil and oil filter for my car.
2. Checked brakes once when they were making noise.
3. Mended punctures.
4. Changed air filter.

Anyways, lemme know what do u need help with, maybe I can find out something from here and there.

Wassalam.

Changing oil and filters is not what I call car fixing. Its more like replacing the engine etc. Anyone?

Trustworthy:
I have no idea why the pedal is getting stuck. It may get stuck at high speeds and is probably not a situation you would like to find yourself in. You should definitely take it to a mechanic, or ask your hubby to fix it himself (NOT).

Its been my experience that most mechanics out there rip people off.  They create extra problems, like breaking something else in the car, and tell you oh you have this problem, get it fixed.  Its happened to me before and I know other people that have had the same problems.  I don't mind sending it to the mechanic, provided its an honest mechanic.  And I'm not sure how to do that.  Maybe those mechanics that are ASE certified? ???

I don't bother doing oil changes either, I just take it to walmart, they charge about $15.

Lol @ super.  You know my hubby?  Well, he's pretty ok with fixing things and the car but he scares me sometimes.  He'll do this and that and then say it's all ready.  Gotta give hime credit for tryin though, however, I think he likes the car more than I do.  He even ourchased a new used engine from Japan.  He took the old one out and out thenew one in all by himself.  And it still has the same problems as the old engine plus this new sticky one.

Yeap...I'm taking it to a mechanic.

all I can fix in a car is the sideview and rearview mirrors.

and for the "mechanics" out there, what could be wrong if you have to "pump the gas paddle" to start the car, with ignition ofcourse.

Its very disappointing, but what SuperFOB says is true.  The Muslim mechanics I have dealt with have been totally dishonest.  And its not just limited to mechanics.  In one carpet business, they behaved the same way.

I tried pateesa a few weeks ago, its that clear mithai?  It tasted a little weird.  But my favorites are kalakund, milk cake (this is what they called it, it was interesting), burffy, and gulab jamuns (when they are made right).  Maybe Bulwark of Islam and Nomi can shed some light on the best mithai places in Pakistan.  How about London?  SuperFOB, what's a good place for mithai in California? ???

Sorry bro SuperFOB these ppl are soo !!!..... and guess what, me is gonna join the party with them :P

So Arshad bhai wanted to know about the methai shops of Pakiland, well there are many, just to name a few. Nawaab sweets, Lal khuu, Nirala Sweets, Fazal Sweets and many more (sorry if i missed someone's favs). I've tried all types of them but can't get more than a couple of pieces down my throat! yes i tried pateesa, my bro made me try that, liked it ever since...

This also reminds of something funny, actually many peeps have this wide spread idea that molvis aka breaded men are the largest consumers of methai. Once my elder bro and i were driving past Fazal sweets and he pointed towards the shop and said "hey look in there, do u find even a SINGLE molvi??".... NOPE there wasn't any, heh... and the moral.... "bud acha budnaam bura"

erm... but bro Arshad sure seems like a big consumer, hey are u bearded? :P

It's food.  Who can blame you all?  I looooooovvvve foooood!!!!  Feed me once and I'll fall to heaven.  Feed me twice, and I'll take you with me (cause I'll share it with you.)  Ok. So I'm corky like that.

Now about the Muslim Businesses.  Is it me or do they just rip off other muslims only?  Cause I know only of one Muslim business that does that and the Muslims they rip off are family.  Terrible I know cause I know them.  I ask them why, but all they say it's business.  I say, BS.

Good thing is, it's the only muslim bus. I know that does that.  The other Muslim bus. like restaurants have alwasy been superb with me.  Giving me free food and desserts cause they know I like to eat and I'm their #1 customer.  When I order I order more then 2 dishes for myself.  The groceries, they give me free meat sometimes and always free fruit.  The other businesses like the one my husband is in (where the other muslim cheats), buys and sells salaal (brushes), he treats Muslims extra nice to keep their business with him.  The contruction companies, we always do business with them.  They give us discounts b/c we're Muslims.

So Masha-Allah, there is only one Muslim bus. here that sucks.

And to comment on my husband.  He tries to be good husband and I appreciate him for that, but he took 2 months in getting started.  Wait...he is a good husband b/c after he finished witht he engine, he took it to a mechanic to look it over.  He knew I wouldn't drive his beat up old clunky 4x4 Toyota pickup which btw he calls it "Handsome." :D  I only have so much strength in me.

But I think he's obligated to fix anything he can.  It's part of that husband duty thang. ;D

No worries, I'm not ungreatful.  He's great.

Hmmm. I don't intend to change the engine of my car. But, I have changed the radiator once, and cleaned up the distributor to pass the smog test. Oil change is a snap for me.

Btw, all commercial desi food sucks in CA, imho. The best mithai, you'll find in someone's house, inshallah. For instance, this bangladeshi guy brought homemade rasgullas the other day, they was awesome. Big, soft, and dripping with sweet goodness. Better than what we have at home. So, there is still some hope for authentic desi cuisine.

Ok, now I know what Pateesas is.  I never developed a taste for it.  I wasn't a fan of habshi halwa either, until I tried some from this one local mithai store and then I was convinced.  Kalakund is like burffy, but its softer and not as sweet.

Nomi, I was asking about the mithai stores, cause I thought we might have some of those names out here, but unfortunately we don't.

Ambala is the most famous shop in the UK for Indian sweets.

Its actually a franchise operation so if anyone out there wants to run their own mithai store you know where to come ;-)

On the subject of car fixing, I noticed that the driving test in the UK in a few months will include a section on how to maintain your vehicle and do basic maintencance.

I wonder if this is already the case in other parts of the world?

OK, I get it now! U are talking about "Madras sweets and bakers". That's also quite famous and its in Block N. But Qasr-e-shereen is no.1.
Haideri is absolutely the funniest market on the planet.  It's like you walk in there and every SINGLE vendor knows who you are.  "Are you related to so-and-so?  Boy you sure look exactly like her.  Did you go see so-and-so sahaab on the second floor in the bookstore?  He has the newest rasalaa for your grandmother...just came out yesterday.  The dupatta-rangnay wala has your khala's dupattas.  Say salaam to your grandfather.  How's your uncle?"  man...love that place.
That no doubt is women's place. All my female relatives are frequent visitors of Hyderi market. Till the time I was there in Karachi, it was me who had to drive them to the market and it used to be so boring roaming around with them. They can spend hours and hours there, and they don't even get tired. When they are hungry, its time for pani puri and chaat and cholay etc. But there is this lassi wala on the corner of Hyderi market, right across which is a mosque, he makes good lassi. Rs.12 a glass, but good lassi. Ok, I think I should stop now............There is Karachi and there is never-ending memories  :)

Wassalam.
