American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee NY Internship Program Membership & Outreach Intern Since 1981, over 400 students have participated in the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) Internship Program. This year, for the first time, ADC is recruiting a Membership & Outreach Intern to work in the ADC New York Office (ADC-NY). Job Description: ADC-NY is seeking an intern to work during the fall semester with the ADC New York Membership & Outreach Coordinator on a community outreach program to empower the Arab American community in New York City by raising awareness about our civil and legal rights and encouraging members of our community to join ADC's grassroots activism. Specific Tasks will include: · Working with the Membership & Outreach Coordinator to implement a comprehensive community outreach program to expanding our presence in the Arab-American community and developing ties with allied organizations; · Assisting ADC-NY with on-going projects; · Representing ADC-NY at various events and meetings concerning indefinite detention of immigrants, racial profiling, Palestine, Iraq, etc. · Providing general office and administrative support to ADC-NY office staff. Internship is unpaid; course credit is available. Requirements / Qualifications: Interns are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours a week. Candidates must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study; this includes recent graduates and graduate students. Interns are expected to be or become regular ADC members. Preferred candidates will have some knowledge of the Arab American community in New York. A background in civil rights and some knowledge of the Arab world is a definite plus. Applicants must have excellent communication skills, be self-motivated and able to work independently. Arabic language skills are very desirable but not mandatory.
