Looking Down Upon Your Brother

Shaykh Al Junayd who is considered Imaam of the Sufis, said,

"If a sincere person were to approach Allah for a thousand and thousand years, and then turn aside from Him for an instant, what he lost would be greater than what he gained."

My comment

This is pretty deep. I am sure it has many meanings.  One reflection I have in reading this quote, is a Sheikh once said, “one should never look down upon another Muslim or anybody for that matter, because you don't know how you are going to die.” Today you may be making your salaat five times a day, and you may be studying the deen, and going to the masjid and all the wonderful things a good Muslim does. And you may do this for 30 years, and right before you die, you enter into Kufr, and die a disbeliever, and the person you are cursing today, may be a deviant or a kufr, but if he dies with La Ilah illa Allah on his tongue, he has achieved more than you have, by the simple fact he died on Imaan and you didn't.

So always be cautious whom you curse and look down upon.

As Allah's Messenger has said, "It is enough evil for a Muslim to look down upon his (Muslim) brother.''
[Muslim].

Perhaps the day before you die, because of you were looking down upon your brother, Allah take you out of Imaan and put into you kufr because of this evil in your heart. Thus elevating your brother many levels above you by the simple fact he died on Imaan and you didn't.

And don't think for a second Allah cannot take Imaan out of your heart and put kufr into it, for surely Allah has the power over All things.

So thank Allah for your Imaan, and seek tawba for looking down upon your brother or sister.

It is Allah Alone who gives success.

May He give us tawfiyq, taqwa, tawba and the likes. And enter us into paradise. Ameen Ameen Ameen.

Waliakum assalam wa rhamatullah,

subhan'Allah!!! this reminds me of something one or our teachers shared with us recently.. He converted to Islam and studied in Mauritania and alhamdullilah just came back.. it's sooo amazing to sit through his classes. May Allah(swt) have Mercy on him. ameen
He said how the Walis of Allah(swt) are beloved to HIM( swt) even when they are perhaps not close to Allah ta'lah.. and I never reflected enough on the fact that all the great shahaba's were beloved to Allah(swt) even before they were Muslims.. Subhan'Allah!!!
JazakAllah khair  :-X

Perhaps this is one means of curing the disease of looking down upon your brother.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Allah will cover up on the Day of Resurrection the defects (faults) of the one who covers up the faults of the others in this world".
[Muslim].

Wa Allahu Alam.
