As-salaam aleikum,
I'm writing a paper for my sociology class that will be on Islam. I need help in finding ayat or ahadith regarding what Islam says about society in general. So far I found verse 13 from surat al Hujurat. If anyone can help me with any more within these 2 days, I'd really appreciate it.

As-salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah,

Hmmnnn....most Islaamic teachings have to do with our individual/collective role in society and/or to God.  Maybe check out some books, like Syed Qutb's "Social Justice in Islam" or articles on man's vicegerency on earth (2:30), etc to help you pull concepts together for your paper, insha'Allah. Qutb is the only author coming to mind at the moment, but here are some links that may/may not help:

***Another author just came to mind: Muhammad Hashim Kamali. His books are excellent, suitable for both Muslims and non-Muslims. He's got titles such as: Freedom of Expression in Islaam, The Dignity of Man, one on Usool-ul-Fiqh/Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence, etc.***

[slm]sister, another one just came to my mind:

Dr Ali Shariati
for a link, i am afraid you will have to do a yahoo search. The works of both Ayatullah Khomenei & Ali Shariati were regarded as the basis for the revolution in Iran, but after the Mujahideen-e-Khalq split from Khomeini, & adopted Ali Shariti's work as their gospel, Islamic Iran tried to disown Shariati. i think i read somewhere that he was rehabilitated, but i cannot say for sure. anyway i read one of his books in the early days & it looked good at that time.
