Asalaamu Alaikum ;-) So it looks like tomorrow is going to be the hottest day in Britain since records began. If the temperature rises above 37.1 degrees centigrade [99F] then we will have a new record. Hmmm...so we have hotter weather here than Albany, California, Singapore and even Karachi!!! Now that's not something you can say very often ;-) I wonder what all the Brits are doing to stay cool? |

[wlm] U kw I have sooo much respect and admiration for ppl who live in hot countries, I don't kw how they do it :P How am I staying cool? By not going out!!! Which I can't carry on doing for much longer, because I have to get quite a few things done now ::). Also, by lying down, resting, and having the good old fan on!!!!!!!! wa'salaam :) |

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)
Whatever U do .. DO NOT GET IN THE TUBE!
Easier said than done if you live in London!!!! Temperatures on the Tube are expected to be around 10 degrees higher than the outside air temperature so I’ll let you do the math!!! Oh I’m so looking forward to my journey home…… |

Salaams, For some very weierd reason, I didn't find it warm, it was kinda ok but nothing to inform my American pals about. Weird, very weird. I even went for a good cross country run, now that was good but nothing too strenous. Salaams Hanif |

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-) Well the record didn't get broken - it only reached 36.4C but it was the hottest day in London ever (35.3C) ;-) Two things to bear in mind:

Temperature readings are always taken in the shade so the actual temperature in the sun is always a lot higher
Most homes in the UK (and some offices) do not have air conditioning. The same goes with most public transport
Personally I feel a lot hotter here in London than say in Makkah or Dubai because over there air conditioning is a necessity and most places have it. Sadly the same cannot be said over here. Out of interest here are the hottest ever temperatures recorded broken down by continent. Makes for interesting reading. ;-) Temperature extremes by continent: Africa: 57.8C, El Azizia, Libya, 13 Sep 1922 Antarctica: 15.0C, Vanda Station, Scott Coast 5 Jan 1974 Asia: 53.9C, Tirat Tsvi, Israel, 21 June 1942 Australasia: 53.3C, Cloncurry, Queensland 16 Jan 1889 Europe: 50.0C, Seville, Spain, 4 August 1881 North America: 56.7C, Death Valley, California, 10 July 1913 Oceania (Pacific Rim): 42.2C, Tugnegareo, Philippines, 29 April 1912 South America: 48.9C, Rivadavia, Argentina, 11 Dec 1905 Source: BBC Weather Centre |
North America: 56.7C, Death Valley, California, 10 July 1913
I can see why its called death valley! :o
Most homes in the UK (and some offices) do not have air conditioning. The same goes with most public transport
If they don't have air-conditioning, I think they should change them windows on them trains and buses. Only a small itsy bitsy outlet for ventilation, while the rest of it are plastered for eternity. I know, my stare at that small ventilation space on that hot summer's day did not make them become any bigger :D Wassalam :-) |
