Ok I'm now wedding planner again.. this is wedding #2 i've been commissioned to do... (note my take is 10% of the wedding gifts ;)) so anyone have any cool ideas for the wedding...

i think it would be fun to do some skits... alot of people do skits at their wedding..  i have a great one for 7 & abu hamza's wedding !!!

opening scene:  their living room: 7 is typing mad furiously on the computer with bebzi's all around her

door opens abu hamza comes in, grabs a bebzi from the fridge,  and goes to the other room and starts typing away furiously

then you see the screen:  YOU have a New Message...

abuhamza: I'm home, dear!!
se7en: How was ur day?
abuhamza: alhamdulillah it was good, how are the kids?
se7en: oh i'll send you the pictures to download
abuhamza: ok great!

lol  :-/

Jannah, the art work on the hands and arms is that a tradition? Fashion?
Can you tell us about it please?

Oh and I loved the idea for the skit, I was laughing as my hubby and I had a sort of 1 1/2 year pc courtship before we met, we also joked about having two keyboards in the house as it was the only way we knew how to communicate to that point.   :D

If it's any consolation..........  ;) They're still happily married.

These are for Adi, my fashion consultant: ;) http://www.pakwatan.com/main/fashion/picgallery/sara/  ...more pics of that cool colored henna stuff..

Azizah henna also called mehendi or mehndi is a paste that people use to make temporary tattoos on women for special occassions like weddings and holidays.  There's a thread called "Mehndi! Mehndi! Mehndi!" somewhere that has more info. It's actually alot of fun :)

Go with the bright red. Not maroon, not dark red, but bright red. :) No one can go wrong with in red. and plus, it's traditional color, and not many people wear it anymore. so i'd be a change. what think?

I agree with Panjul go with red. It looks very brideish( if that is a word). Red with even little bit of embrodiery(gold work) will look heavy.

:'( can't find a nice wedding dress to show you chicas.

:) but I found a nice bridal bedroom... its fairly simple, easy to do up and cheap (if you do it on your own) inshaAllah. (all relative to the more luxuriously and elaborately designed Malay bridal rooms.. none of which is online for me to show it to you... only the gaudy ones are online  :P)

Adi I can't believe you didn't post the bed we both LOVE!!!  Everytime we go to the mall we just go to the Bombay Company to look at it... here's the picture but picture it with the beautiful filmy white curtains and beautiful oriental beaded pillows....Remember we said it was so beautiful we don't need any other furniture in the house, we can just use it for the kitchen table, sofa, etc whatever we need  :-/

Jilbab on your wedding day!? No way, dude, we're desi, we like to wear desi stuff on our wedding day.  ;)  What's so unislamic about the dresses? All she has to do is not be in front of nonmehram men. simple. :)
And the same would go for a jilbab for a wedding. the ones i have seen are pretty fancy too.

Ya Rub!  Looking at those pictures gets me excited.  Full of joy.  Triple overjoy cause I know who se7en is now.  WOOHOOO!!!

She'll make a beautiful bride no matter what she wears.  And the bedroom set looks georgeous.  Our style is more insane.  I'll bring some pics to show you at ISNA insha-Allah.

There is an Indian store (forgot the name) but they have beautiful dresses.  The owner showed me some yesterday cause I saw your pics and wanted to see how I would look in one.  I chickened out.  So I rented another Hindi movie.  But she showed me little cute outfits that would fit a 6 mo old girl.  We are both like "AAAAWWWWEEEE.  That's so cute."  Her husband was like, "Are you guys playing with those dresses?  It's not like you can have one being so old."

They're a nice couple.  But that's the only Desi shop close to me which is 20 minutes away if I drive on the freeway going 60 mph.  SO go once in a while when I'm in the mood to watch a love story.  They make the best.

I'm so jealous......y'all gonna look so beautiful.  We wear like 10 different outfits before showing off the white dress.  I bought mine, but my daughter probably won't want to wear it on her day.

Ma-asalaama.....

Those dresses are just soooooo beautiful!!  I sure haven't ever seen any like these at any of the weddings I've been too, they're so colorful and just so beautiful! I just love it!! Now it's got me re-thinking what to wear at my wedding....My mom, grandmother and me are going to make it, I think it would be less expensive that way, and it would be a fun thing to do together. So, I think I'll be refering to some of these pictures for ideas!

And one last thing before I go to bed, what does desi mean??? Silly question, but I see that every now and again, and haven't been able to figure out what it is.

[slm]  sisters!!

Missy, desi means someone from Indian/Pakistani background.   :)

I have a curious and slightly "lame" question for u sisters--what are weddings like in ur respective locales?  The weddings here are becoming more and more ostentatious while all the meanwhile becoming more liberal with everyone "competing" against each other for the most posh wedding.   :'(   That equals weddings at places like the Ritz, coupla thousand dollar wedding outfit, djs--mixed dancing, first dances, etc etc!!   :o

Whats an example of a classy yet "Islamic" wedding?  sad how those are rare here.    :'(

Just curious... ;D

I've had the priveleged to witness this.

The Imam to do the akad, 2 witnesses, the wali, the bride, the groom, the parents, the mahr and the masjid. they did the akad, ended with du'a. everyone had some snack (dates and cookies) . the whole thing would probably took 30 mins if the groom and the bride forgot the marriage license and they took 1 hr 45 mins to go back to get it.

after that, lunch at darband (not sure of the correct spelling).

oh but i forgot to mention that it'll be interesting to see their reception on the bride's said which probably have almost 3000 relatives and friends attending.

ok i think its time to  have a little diversity in this thread ....becasue i know everybody on this board isnt desi so....why dosent everybody post your cultural wedding dress?? lets spice this place up a bit without just using masala haha . OR even better why dont you post what YOU wore to your wedding , now that would be intresting.  ok well since im not married nor have been in the past  im gonna  post what i would wear on my wedding day or  basically what i think is pretty :)

I know the feeling  ::) :( ::) and as for costing an arm and a leg here in the uk n e way most of the peoople i know geting married take pics of what they like out to Pakistan India and have them made up from scratch, costs a fraction of what u would pay in uk or us and if like us there are 3 females in the family then wedding clothes for everyone more than make up for the cost of the plane ticket......

Assalamu'alaikum :)

Here are some ideas for those who will be wearing hijab during their wedding.

There are other styles that I like, but its only available in magazines, I'm afraid.

Warning: Some shots are NOT for the anti PDA  8)

Isnt that what married couple should do?  ???

It's not a dagger but a 'keris' or 'kris' . They're wearing Malay traditional wedding dress. In our culture, we refer to couple on their wedding day as the King and Queen of the day. The keris symbolize men as warrior. Long time ago, they carry that all the time for protection like people carrying guns nowadays. No, our country (M'sia and S'pore) do not allow ppl carry weapon at all. I think.

me mano, protect wifeo

Its just a symbol for protection.... me thinks.

Its just like cowboys carry guns and wear hats... Malay men of the past carry the keris and wear the tanjak or the songkok. They don't usually hold onto the keris (that's just for posing for the camera), they place it at the folds of their samping; the knee length *sarong*like cloth that they wear on their waist.
