| [slm] Could someone please tell me whether there is a prophetic tradition or islamic schorlars' ruling prohibiting or discouraging the consumption of snail? Thanks for all the information I could get on this please. |

| [slm] I am pretty sure there is. Along time back, I remembr being horrified that I ate snail and frog legs in the same night...later on finding out we couldn't. I will look into it. There seems to be conflicting advice. A fatwa on Islam on Line said it was ok. Other sites say no, but then they also say no to lobster, crab etc... |

Answer: All the foods you mentioned are edible especailly in regards to the maliki school who focuses on the verse of Surat Al-Anam that excludes what is haram of meats that being pork. The verse says: except the dead animal, the blood of a slaughtered animal or the flesh of a pig(Surah 6, Verse 145). The opinion of the maliki school is attributed to the opinion of the companion Ibn Abbass. | [slm] WHAT? :o You've got to be kidding me right? The only foods that are forbidden I know are what the Qur'an mentions which is 3 hooved animals like Ostriches, and man eating like sharks and lions, already dead, etc. But everything in the sea is halal excpet those few that will cause you harm like blow fishes, etc. The shellfish thing is a Jewish law. That's all we eat when we go out to non-Muslim restaurants, seafood. Any seafood. Well that's what I know. I'll research more on this. Ma-asalaama.... |

| I have always heard, health wise, shell fish are bottom fish, they eat the waste type stuff from the ocean and there fore are unhealthy. This was tragic news to the shrimp and crab lover in me. :'( But heard clams, shrimp, crab, etc are junk eaters. Also shell fish is very very hight in cloresteral. (however you spell it) Anyone know if Bison, dear and elk are ok? I know there was a post sometime ago on the board about game meat. |
