Stuff like that happens all the time -- and it's probably a mixture of good natured intentions and innocent ignorance.

So my friend was in line at a fresh juice bar the other night.  The server looks up at him and says, "Wow...what an interesting accent you have!" (his accent is a culmination of speaking urdu with his family, arabic with his friends, tinged by learning English from the British school system, and softened by living in Canada for a few years).  The server continued, "I have a friend who is Hindi...where are you from?"   ::)
He looks at her with all seriousness and says, "Saudi Arabia."

:o

The server really had nothing to say after that.  He had just assumed that my friend was Indian by virtue of skin colour.  Who knew that my friend's family is Pakistani, but has lived in Jeddah all of his life.  :)   :D

And sometimes these instances offer dawa opportunities!  I walked into a store once, where the server was in the middle of giving dawa to a new trainee, Subhan'Allah.  The trainee looked at me and asked why I wore a scarf, and the server explained modesty and how both his mom and sister wear scarves.  The trainee was really cute masha'Allah -- I gave her salaams and she blushed, and gave a shaky salaams back.  Who knows...maybe the next time I visit the store, she'll be Muslim!  Wa Allahu 'alam.

Peace,
Nistar

Pakistani language would mean the official language of Pakistan and that to date is urdu, other languages spoken in Pakistan are Punjabi (pakistan chay dujeyaan zabanaan wee boleyaan jandeyaan nay :P), Pushto (oye khocha "brother 24", hamara edhar madad kero bai :D ), hindko, saraikey etc

And lala in "pushto?" means brother !

And tomorrow (14th Aug) is the independence day of Pakistan, i'm told and history books are filled with it that Pakistan was made in the name of islam a land where Muslims may independently follow islamic teachings, *sigh* and look at our people, our youth. Corruption, vulgarity,... its all on the rise, our govt. is finding more ways to make media more vulgar (a'maalukum ummalukum).

Tomorrow night the youth will be out on the streets, shouting, making lots of noise, the main roads will be bursting with people, young boys on their bikes with dismentaled silencers! not realizing that this day is to contemplate and learn from loads of our mistakes from the past. *sigh*

But things are changing, there are two visible groups now, one striving in deen (although in minority) and the other tangled up in dunya. But things will improve inshAllah.

A proud pakistani who prays in Allah to also use him in bringing a positive change here.
