Our Imam asked me to make up a newletter for our Masjid.

What would you like to see in it?

Is there any type of template you like?

Our masjid has a cool newsletter-it's called the Heart beat 8)
Things included and you might want to think about:
a)Announcements/events
b)Gem of the week: Could be a hadith/ayah/quote etc
c)Salaat time changes/plus Jumuah information
d)Q and A: each week they select one question (which is emailed before hand and the Imam answers it..) this is a pretty neat feature, especially since they try to pick popular ones.
e)A short Khatira/Reminder: This is normally prepared by the Imam, but if yours is too busy, you can do it too:) it's just a paragraph or two dealing with naseeha etc. Like this week the topic was "Masjid Etiquette". it had nice pointers etc.
f) There is a constant reminder in all of them to donate, give, volunteer etc. and the pertinent information regarding that.

The cool thing about this newsletter its one two sided piece of paper :) so you know it's not a waste of too much paper, and it's not too much for people to read...

I hope this helps :-*

I would have a poet's corner...but thassjusme 8)

May Allah reward you for your efforts and put mad Barakah in it:) (Amin)

Here's a link if you wanna check out the layout etc: http://www.adamscenter.org/newsletter/HeartbeatV1_I20.pdf

Sis,
Maliha :-)

As-salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah,

Masha'Allah, Mystic, I like the set-up. There's a local masjid that just started a newsletter, and it's somewhat like that, but longer. There's:

-Imam's khatira (usually on some topic that occurs in that time period, historically)
-Male Sahabah Story
-Female Sahabah Story
-Another khatirah focusing on current events/ummah issues.
-Salah times, masjid events, etc.

Has up to 6 pages, but not sure why, it could be shorter...anyhow, there's also the Muslim Link published by Dar-us-Salaam, which is like an actual newspaper type set-up. Has a lot more on events, news, health, seerah articles, fatawah, etc.

Starting out with 1-2 pages is definitely a worthwhile effort. Good way of keeping the community connected to the masjid, insha'Allah.

Those newsletters are really cool mashallah  8)
The newsletter we have is made up of 4 pages, it includes
- a hadith quote or Quran Ayyah
- any anouncements to be made
- 2 or 3 different articles e.g patience, friends, Du'aa etc
and then the last page is called the childrens corner where theres a prophets story and a puzzle in the middle, usually a wordsearch or a anagram.

I have a copy of one of them on the comp but i'm not sure how to put it up.
Its like an A3 paper, folded in half. So theres a front page, a inside and the back.

May Allah make it easy for you and grant you a huge reward for your efforts.

[slm] Sister, you might want to look at having :-

* Classifieds Section (this could also help finance the newsletter too if you charge a small fee for the placing an ad)

*childrens section (Hadith coloring-in, Nasheed transcripts)

*short quick recipes for the busy moms

*How to change a lightbulb/tyre/nappies section for the harrassed dads  ;D

*in the "Announcement" section as suggested by one of the sisters, maybe MARRIAGES could be annouced...so no one has an excuse to have a secret marriage :-)
