Assalam alaikum....

I'm going through a really horrible stage, where my face is being invaded by unsightly
spots. I'm really quiet cause i feel awkward when talking to someone because that means
they'll look at my face and if they look at my face, they see my spotty face which makes me
feel sooo embarrased.
Alhamdullilah i'm very greatful for everything i have been blessed with and alhamdullilah
my skin condition is not any worse than it is.
I've been trying alot of the cosmetics that are suppose to make your spots go away but
non of them are working.
are there any natural remedies or special methods that may help? or anyyything else?
please..pretty please....with a nice sweet juicy red cherry on top and lots of cream.
Alright, i mean Seriously.
i'd appreciate your help verryy (the word 'very' in bold and underlined) much.
jazakallah khair in advance

your sad'n not confident sis

What helped me was tea tree oil, there's also a face mask I use once in a while, it's with tea tree oil in it, I don't know what country you're in, but it's sold at a shop here in the US called The Body Shop, it's called Tea Tree Oil Facial Mask, or something similar.

If i can ask, but what sort of spots are these?  Are they sort of like freckles?  If so, to prevent any further new ones, definitely use sun screen before going out of at least SPF 15 (preferrably 30 or greater actually) regardless of if it's sunny or cloudy.   8)  Or if it's getting really bad, perhaps it'd be a good thing to go to the dermatologist?  They can prescribe some lightening creams.  Hope that helped!   :-*

Sis Missy, does the tea tree oil help lighten freckles?  I have a tendency to get freckles on my cheeks... And while Ive started using a stronger sunblock so alhamdullilah they've lessened, Id like to lighten the ones i do have.  Or anyone else with ideas??  THanks!

Dear Sister :-) don't worry about what others might think or feel about how YOU look.  Are their views on your physical appearance THAT important after all?  Insha Allah i should hope not  :-*

Don't try every and any cream on the market without referring to a dermatologist.  Especially if none are working, you might do more harm that good to your skin.

Insha Allah this is just a SHORT phase for you and it will soon pass (assuming this is acne?) and if it IS freckles, the Sisters advicxe on sunblock is important :-)

Honey and oatmeal, makes an excellent face mask for spots, leave on for about 5 minutes and then wash off, gently scrubbing the skin with face mask if you understand what I mean. Don't worry I get spots too, I've given up looking in mirrors now, I only see the bad points....

Can you afford to see a dermatologist? The meds and creams they have out now are incredible!

Great advice from all the ukthis :)  I'd jus like to add dear sis...try not to overload your skin too much with products.  Often the most simplest of skin care routines are the most effective.  Make sure you keep your skin clean by washing twice a day...I find the dermalogica range are excellent for all skin types.  You can read more here: http://www.dermalogica.com

Also, the most important thing you can do....is to drink plenty of water in the day!  At least 8 glasses a day.  This helps to flush out the system and is awesome for the skin.

Pray this helps inshaAllah.

Ruh,
I don't think the tea tree oil is good for fading freckles. I have lot, but since I've started to use a moisturizer with sun screen in it, they've gotten lighter. There are products out there, they're expensive though, that fade freckles, they're usually called skin brighteners or whiteners. I'd prefer to just use the sun screen though.

[wlm]  Anonymous,

I know how you feel.  My complexion has had its up and downs, and it can really make you feel depressed and not want to go out of the house. My skin was very clear most of my teens years and then suddenly got worse. and I tried drinking lots of water, the natural products, and even went to the dermatologist and he prescribed a face wash (which dried out my sensitive skin).  I had asked my dermatologist about Proactiv but he told me it would dry out my skin.   But after all measures were exhausted, I ordered Proactive since a friend had told me it worked for her.  I've been using it for several months and it works pretty well.  My skin is not perfectly clear but its better than it was before.  However it can dry out your skin so moderate the use according to what suits you.   I'd reccomend seeing a dermatologist first, he could prescribe a wash that would work for you.  Also it depends what your age is also, since breakouts are normal in the teen years.

Leave it raw, depending on how big the pieces are it's a good idea to grind it first, the bit that gets rid of the spots is the honey, as it's a natural antibiotic. Hope it helps.

Dont worry sis, we all go through it some time or the other. What I can tell you is that dont be tempted to pick or squeeze the spots-it just makes it worse and you also pass the infection to other parts of your skin [I should follow this advice myself! ;)].If you need to go to somewhere looking your best why not try some concealer just to even out your skin tone?

Something that also comes to mind is -dont read these fashion magazines with teir impossibly beautiful ,clear complexions-it just makes you feel worse!Any way they do use aibrushing techniques so that the model is seen to be flawless but its all a lie. [wlm] :-)

Sister, if you decide on the tea tree oil, do a skin patch test first to see if you can tolerate it.

I tried some products containing tea tree oil last year, and found out I'm ultra-sensitive to stuff.  I tried a tea tree oil skin cleanser on my face, and it dried out my skin.  Worse yet, in my search for a good alchohol-free mouth wash, I tried one containing tea tree oil.  I ended up with black sores on the inside of mouth.   :(

Never again!

[slm] Dear Sister, i just thought of something else too...don't use a soap based face cleanser.  Soap tends to aggrevate spots and make the face dry.  Try a soap free cleanser instead.

Also use a very mild cleanser wipe-off cleanser before you make whudu.

My daughter has an allergy to any cleanser or cream that has color or fragrance in it, so for her i use hypoalergenic, fragrance free, color free Aqueous cream and it seems to work Alhumdulillah.

Beeswax is also good as a healing and nourishing night cream, it's all natural and safe, Insha Allah.

As-salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah,

I'd recommend eating better. Most people wash their face enough times per day (ex/ wudu'). I'd also second non-soap-based cleansers (ie, use liquid, not bar). Try not to touch your face too much. And may want check with a physician for hormonal imbalance.

Otherwise, it all comes down to food, for pretty much any ailment. I know of a sister who goes by the "food is medicine or poison" theory. She's kind of like a grandmother figure, and more agile/healthy than most girls our age, masha'Allah. She also mentioned she rarely has meat (not a big eater, period) and recently started researching foods that are good/bad for certain blood types. I haven't looked into that, but my original point was avoid too much white sugar (use honey or something instead) and too much processed foods (white flour, etc). Go for more water, vegetables, fruits, nuts, fish, chicken (maybe meat/dairy hormones are a problem, Allahu A'lim). There may be more to it (I really don't know), but even just cutting out white sugar helps for skin problems. Some also argue that too much spice is not a good thing, but I haven't been convinced of that one yet. :)

sis
this might be systemic, in which case  NO cream or mask or any other topical treatment will help. it is possible that your spots are being caused by candida (fungal infection) in which case you should take acidopholus. it is a natural fungi eating organism that lives in our bodies naturally to keep a balance. if you dont have enough it can mess up your whole system. (one way to tell is if you currently have or are prone to yeast infections ... ikh!)

otherwise i too would suggest seeing a dermatologist or even a homeopath.

While we're on the topic of skin care, what kind of skin care regimen do you sisters have?  Ie like what sort of cleanser, moisturizer do you recommend?  I'm not into the expensive department store beauty products that are raved bout in magazines.  I like to use Oil of Olay..   :)  but I'd like to know what else is good.  THANKs!

Also I agree with Sis Sofia bout diet playing a role too (I may be biased though  :) ).  Lots of fruits and vegetables are a good thing for skin too cuz of their antioxidant values, as well as lots of water!  I saw one of my cousins after a while; she's in her late 30's and her skin looks like shes 20.  it was just glowing.  I asked her what she had done and she told me she drinks 8-9 glasses of water a day w/o fail.  Seems hard, but I guess one could build up to it.   :-*

This was an interesting beauty page I saved a few weeks back.... Haven't tried any treatments yet, need a halal Guinea-pig to try some treatments on if anything should go wrong...any volunteers?

Causes of Unhealthy skin
Faulty diet. Refined foods like white flour, sugar and products made with them, tea, coffee, and soft drinks deplete energy, bring about wrinkles, unattractive skin and premature aging.

Lack of healthy blood. Healthy blood adds a glow to the skin and keeps it well-nourished, moist, and free from dryness and roughness.

Inadequate cleansing. Very often, our skin looks superficially clean; but they really are not. Dirt and dust particles can hide in the pores of the skin and clog sweat and sebaceous glands. Proper cleansing not only removes all the dust, dirt and make-up, which accumulate during the day, but also stops the oil-secreting sebaceous glands from getting clogged.

Natural Aids for Beautiful Skin
Several natural aids have been found useful in promoting healthy and beautiful skin.

Lime Juice

Lime juice is an important natural aid for healthy skin.

1. Lime Juice Formula

Squeeze lime into a bowl. Add a glass of boiled whole milk and a teaspoon of glycerin to it. Stir well and let it stay for half an hour. Apply this mixture on the face, hands and feet before going to bed at night. This treatment every night will help you to look young and beautiful. It will also help cure pimples.

2. For very oily skin

Squeeze lemon juice in a bowl of iced water. Splash this over the face, massage for five minutes and then wash off with water.

3. T o improve a dull and greasy complexion

Mix half teaspoon of lime juice with one teaspoon of cucumber juice and a few drops of rose water. Apply on the face and neck and leave on for 15 minutes. Remove with water.

4. To improve a dry and rough skin

Take an egg yolk and mix in a few drops of lime and olive oil. Spread on the face and leave it till the skin feels dry. Wash off with ordinary water and splash on cold water.

5. To relieve tired eyes

Take four tablespoons each of lime juice and iced water. Saturate cotton pads in this water and place over your closed eyelids for 10 minutes.

6. To remove freckles

Blanch and grind two almonds. Mix it with white of an egg to which half teaspoon of lime juice has been added. Spread on the face and leave it on till the skin feels dry. Then, wash off first with warm water and then with cold water.

Peach Treatment

The skin of the peach is useful in improving the complexion.

Gently massage the inside of peach peelings on the face every night for a few minutes. Don't rub off the moisture afterwards. This will cleanse the skin thoroughly and free the pores. It also has an astringent action and tightens the muscle of the face slightly, thus preventing sagging tissues.

Cleansing Lotion

To one-fourth teaspoon of lime juice stir in one teaspoon each of milk and cucumber juice. Apply on the face and neck and wash off after 14 minutes. This lotion cleanses and purifies the pores of the skin.

Tangerine Juice Treatment

The use of orange or tangerine juice has also been found valuable for a glowing complexion.

Dip your fingers in fresh tangerine or orange juice. Apply it liberally over your face, chin, neck, and forehead. Make a paste from the powdered sun dried pips of unripe oranges. Use this paste on the pimples and acne at bed time.

Orange Tonic

Blanch and grind a couple of almonds to a paste and mix in two tablespoons of milk and one tablespoon each of carrot and orange juice. Apply thickly on face and neck and leave on for half an hour. Removes scars and blemishes from the face and makes it soft and smooth.

Tomato

Tomato, used externally, is good for getting a good complexion.

Apply the pulp of a tomato liberally on the face. Leave this for an hour. Then wash off with warm water. Repeat this daily. You will have a good complexion. It will also remove ugly-looking pimples in a short time.

A really good quick fix that I use and definitely works. If you wake up to find you have a really spotty or tired looking face, after your regular cleansing, get a large bowl fill it with cold water and lots of ice-cubes. Then put your face in the bowl and hold it there for as long as bearable repeat the process as few times, then dab dry with a towel.
I know it sounds bizarre but it makes ones face glow and all spots and blemishes shrink. Takes a bit of getting used to though.
