THE HAJJ debuts on The Discovery Times Channel on October 20 from 8-10 PM/ET Wih the backdrop of a war looming in Iraq, THE HAJJ follows five diverse Muslims from Britain, Pakistan, Kuwait and the U.S. as they prepare to depart from their everyday lives and leave their families to participate in the 2002 Hajj. Pilgrims literally risk their lives to experience Hajj, despite precautions and safety measures set into place by the Saudi government, some die each year from the heat or are crushed by crowds. THE HAJJ provides rare access for viewers into this fascinating Muslim-only event. The pilgrims featured in the film come from five very different walks of life. From an African American banker to a Pakistani magazine editor, these intriguing characters provide unique insights into what it means to experience Hajj. The sheer emotion and spiritual intensity of the pilgrims is captured as they join the masses to participate in ancient rituals such as stoning the Jamarat, a ritual based on the Prophet Abraham slaying the Devil a sheep. Asalaamu Alaikum ;-) Definately worth watching if you get the chance. The programme isn't ideal from a spiritual point of view but at least it conveys an idea of what performing Hajj is like. ;-) |
