Dawah book for Xtian.

i recently met this *really* good christian lady, who has gone all over the world with Mother Teresa (at some point) and others, feeding the poor and doing charitable stuff. She has recently been interested in knowing more about Islam, and has been reading and trying to understand.
Subhana Allah in talking to her i find that she is naturally very spiritually inclined, and so Islam in it's essence makes so much sense to her...
but last night she admitted that have grown up with such deep Christian roots it's very, very hard for her to let go of some things such as the Trinity, centrality of Jesus (AS), and other related Christian beliefs. She also said it would have been much easier if she was simply athiest because at least there would be no alternative for her...of course she also has the usual worries of what would my friends/society think, blah.

I was wondering if there were any hard core christians here who later became Muslim, or if you know of any, can you tell me what finally did it for you? how did you get over the "obstacle" of huge paradigm change, letting go of such core beliefs to believe in another set.

Also any really *good* *powerful* book that deals with these issues??  i.e. the Christian doctrine.

hmmm..any other help, resources, would go along way in assisting a struggler find her way.

she said something that I heard Azizah say on here before "I wish I could simply be a Christian Muslim"...made me reflect on how hard it must be to be at this point.

Jazakumu Allahu Khayran  :-)

This is a good book, it is called "What did Jesus really Say"  by Misha'al Ibn Abdullah.

it is available both online and in printed form. i would suggest you also get her the printed form, it just seems more serious.

Click on the book

if she believes Jesus(pbuh) is the Son of God, for example, let her read this(from the book):

Just an example, the book is pretty good.

I don’t think am currently much help on the “adopting another paradigm” issue, but I can perhaps contribute a bit to the “dropping of a paradigm”.  And you are absolute right about one thing.  Dropping such a paradigm isn’t just hard – it is nigh on impossible, especially if one has been raised and steeped in said paradigm from birth.  I won’t go into my journey out of Christianity except to say that it took me a good twelve years to get to the point where I could honestly say that I no longer believed Jesus was God and that, moreover, I wasn’t petrified of what would happen to me if I honestly believed that.  And the last five of those years were spent struggling, not really believing, but scared to death (literally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) of not believing.    But, if you want to recommend reading material to her that will perhaps help her come to grips with the probable facts, rather than taking it all with faith, I would recommend the following books.  At least, these were among the books that eventually "convinced me away" from the central core doctrines of Christianity (the belief in the divinity of Jesus and the belief in Jesus’ physical resurrection – when those go, so also go doctrines like vicarious atonement).  A couple of the books are more scholarly in nature, but that was what I needed, so you will need to decide if you think such books will be useful to her or not.  In any case, in no particular order …

E.P. Sanders (more scholarly):
  Jesus and Judaism
  Paul and Palestinian Judaism
E.P. Sanders (aimed at populace at large)
  The Historical Figure of Jesus
Paula Fredriksen (very good book – aimed at educated populace)
From Jesus to Christ: The origins of the New Testament Images of Jesus
Bart D. Ehrman
  The Orthodox Corruption of Scripture
Robin Lane Fox
The Unauthorized Version: Truth and Fiction in the Bible

I am sure there are a myriad of other books out there saying similar things, but I encountered these first, so these are the ones that made the largest impression.  I do know that none of these deal with Islam at all, so they may not be what you are looking for.  But I figured I would list them just in case you might be interested.

With Peace,
Dawn

no wonder the believing reverts from the People of the Book get so much rewards for reverting.
