Ok don't ask why but I bought a poetry book by Hafiz..(The Gift: Poems by Hafiz trans. Daniel Ladinsky) now i'm not really a poetry person but I thought I'd get into it.. but he's like wayyy on a different level with too many layers going on...on the surface it's like people love, but it's really about divine love and there's all these symbols that stand for other stuff.. it's like well too much for me i think...plus the translator is just funny sometimes i think he translates some old world things with some weird modern language with inherent western perspective and it just doesn't come across right...

but just for u guys i saved a few of the least crazy ones.......

THE FOOUNDATION FOR GREATNESS

Greatness

Is always built upon this foundation

The ability

To appear, speak and act

As the most

Common

Man.

..........................

THAT SHAPES THE EYE

Children
Can easily open the
Drawer

That lets the spirit rise up and wear
Its favorite costume of
Mirth and laugher.

When the mind is consumed with
Remembrance of
Him

Something divine happens to the
Heart

That
Shapes the hand and tongue
And eye into
The word
Love.

........................

I RAIN

I rain
Because your meadows call
For God.

I weave light into words so that
When your mind holds them

Your eyes will relinquish their sadness,
Turn bright, a little brighter, giving to us
The way a candle does
To the dark.

I have wrapped my laughter like a birthday gift
And left it beside your bed.

I have planted the wisdom in my heart
Next to every signpost in the sky.

A wealthy man
Often becomes eccentric,

A divine crazed soul
Is transformed into infinite generosity

Tying gold sacks of gratuity
To the dangling feet of moons, planets, ecstatic
Midair dervishes, and singing birds.

I speak
Because every cell in your body
Is reaching out
For God.

......................

THE GIFT

Our
Union is like this:

You feel cold
So I reach for a blanket to cover
Our shivering feet.

A hunger comes into your body
So I run to my garden
And start digging potatoes.

You ask for a few words of comfort and guidance,
I quickly kneel at your side offering you
This whole book --
as a gift.

You ache with loneliness one night
So much you weep

And I say,

Here's a rope,
Tie it around me,

Hafiz
Will be your companion
For life.

There is a Hafiz poem I absolutely love but I can't find it anywhere!! :(

Instead I share this with you:-

Last Night's Storm

Last night's storm was a journey to the Beloved.
I surrender to that, the wind that
is my Friend, and my work.

Each night, the lightning flashes.
Every morning, a breeze.

Not in some protected place, but in the flood
of the heart's pumping, in the wind
of a rosebud's opening out,
that puts a small crown on each narcissus.

A tired hand collapses, exhausted,
that in the morning holds your hair again.

Peace comes when we are friends together,
remembering. Hafiz! Your honest desire
and your benevolence free the soul
to emerge as what it is.

scary ain't it !!  i'm not into all of Hafiz's Allah anthropomorphism but i know it's al metaphorical and beyond the literal so takes some time get used to.. but still kinda weird... but still i  found a few really nice one's...

THE BODY IS A TREE

The body a tree.
God a wind.

When He moves me like this,
Like this,

Angels bump heads with each other
Gathering beneath my cheeks,
Holding their wine
barrels

Catching the brilliant tear,
Pearl

Rain.
