Shaam: Mercy like the Rain

Tracks:

1. Kulama Nadayt Yahu - Every time I call out to HIm
2. Mercy like the Rain
3. Jashne aamade rasool - Celebrations of the coming of the Messenger
4. Mowllaya Sali - My Lord send prayers
5. Thank You Allah
6. Ana Dayfak - I'm your Guest

So SHAAM is a group from Birmingham England called shaam cause they all studied in shaam (anyone who studied in dimashq is automatically cool by my standards ;)) They use mostly vocals and percussion only (drums? maracas?), "with stringed and wind instruments being shunned in deference to orthodox Islamic precepts" according to their inset.

1. nice song
2. thought it was just the same refrain repeating too many times
3.  this was an amazing song, apparently a remake of a classic in urdu, nice beat
4.  this is from qasida burda, not bad but i wonder why they can't get that cool harmony throughout the song that they do at the end
5.  this sounds like raihan's song??
6. kinda weird to hear Allah repeated so continuously... but definitely a cool hajj song

All in all I'd say they're right when they say live performances are their forte.. I think their songs would sound awesome live.  I just think their voices could use some polishing to be in harmony more, but maybe cause I'm used to Raihan's perfection or something... but the song excerpts and harmonies they do try are pretty good...

as salaamu alaykum,

I actually like the last song 'ana dayfak' and the cool 'Allah Allah Allah' chant  8)  and you're right about #5.. total Raihan style..  also it would have been nice if there were more songs on the CD, since it was like $15.

another thing I was thinking while listening to the CD... it would be so nice if there were some Islamic songs in English about marriage.. to sing/play at weddings and stuff  :-[

just a suggestion for all the nasheed singers out there :P

wasalaamu alaykum :-)
