Does any one have *really* creative ideas on things that they did and *worked* in their sunday school?
I remember Kathy's Hajj idea (which I will bug her for) but any others out there??
I am going to work with 12 year olds this time around and it's a bit harder than the older ones, or the really younger ones. Just cuz 12 is that age you know?
So i was planning like a fun packed, more hands on, practical kinda learning...
problem is i have the vision but no ideas ::)

help :(

Assalamu Alaikum,

Organised a half term day: theme was Prophet Nuh (pbuh).
I made a magazine with Puzzles, crosswords and a story about Prophet Nuh (pbuh).

Then the kids read the story out.
We made facemasks of animals with glue, glitter the works. (Had mask templates.)
Then we went to the zoo.

Its was a succesish – the kids were not too bothered about the activities but about being together and socialising, they were under 12 though  :(

Lemme think for 12 and over……………

How about:

A play, get them to write a play with Islamic morals, and design sets, costumes and perform it – but only if parents don’t feel it is haram.

How about getting them to create a newsletter/magazine with Islamic articles, poems, information for kids (or new Muslims) by kids

Write some nasheeds about being a kid and Muslim, about morals and being good, perform it – again if it’s within parent’s permission. Introduce kids to nasheeds available for kids. Analyse lyrics.

Get hold of a video camera and ask the kids to make a short film about being a Muslim in the States in 2003. Film what they do in their spare time, their hangouts, their feelings, disappointments, struggles, fears and hopes.

Find some pen-pals from other Sunday schools in other states or other countries. Get the kids writing to each other and organise meetings with the other kids from different Sunday schools through picnics.

Teach the kids about Islamic history, art, architecture, life of Prohphet’s (pbuh), introduce books, organise trip to museum to find out more on Islamic civilization.

Get the kids to explore mosques around the world. Learn about the 1st mosques in Islam and let the kids build a 3d model of one using paper mache etc

Get someone an expert who specialises in calligraphy to give the kids a lesson.

Give a lesson on great Islamic scholars from the past who excelled in medicine, geography, architecture - Al Khwarizmi (Al – Khawarizmi) – the father of algebra, Ibn Sina (Ibny Seena) – one of the greatest physicians.  Explain the importance of knowledge in Islam.

The first words the angel Jibreel ever said to Prophet Muhammad was "Iqra (read)".
"Seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave", (Hadith)

Take an Islamic calander and mark all notable Islamic dates and explain the importance of the dates each time they fall near Sunday school
