[slm],

Anyone here done computer architecture stuff using VHDL. I have never studied VHDL and in a class I am taking thats what we need to be using. So if anyone can direct me towards resources where I could learn that stuff in a quick fashion I would make dua for them inshaAllah  ;-)

Although I am not an expert on the subject, I am familiar with VHDL, Verilog etc. If you have a CS degree or programming background, you won't have any difficulty coding since most of the constructs have equivalents in sequential languages, like C/C++, Java, etc.  But HDL constructs execute in parallel, mimicking the inherent parallelism in hardware. The models changes dramatically (paradigm shift! ack!!!) when you start thinking of CONCURRENTLY executing statements instead of SEQUENTIAL execution (don't confuse with concurrent threads, which are inherently sequential). But it is really just a simple mental adjustment to make and inshallah you'd be able to start coding within a couple of days.  It would also help if you are familiar with discrete time simulation as the concepts are the same.  You should also have a good background in hardware and computer architecture though. In addition, I am pretty sure that there are a zillion, if not more, websites offering free advice and sample code in VHDL.  Btw, VHDL, although a DoD pet project, is popular in Europe, while Verilog is popular elsewhere.

I hope this helps and gives you encouragement.  Feel free to communicate in the future.
