Mine is grey.  Rectangular (sits better on the head.)  Just bought it from Madina.  The material is na-ice.  It has like this faint stitching on it, which you can't see unless you're close-up.  And it feels good :)

Wasalaam.

ah! sis twilight reminding me of sth: i forgot two other ones: one as you described: one of those "gulf-hijabs" those black rectangular ones, with embroidery and small shining stones/stars  ;D on the borders
and the other one a wonderful silver one which i didnt have the chance to wear it yet, as it is a very very elegant one: īsilver rectanuglar with some kind of stripes in it adding to the shimmering, and a very thin cloth, like gaze oder musselin (?)
oh and the other one i wore for a great occasion some two months back: a deep lilac one having golden shimmering all over it as if someone had sprayed that goldspray some ppl use here in germany for carnival or for their hair.

For some reason, I just like the plain old black cotton ones.  May be I'm getting old.  But I've plenty colorful ones with mah-vul-oussss designs on them.  SOme that sparkle, some beads, some flowers, some all.  My daughter loves them and for some reason does not like to wear hers.  They say they're too childish.  She's into fashion, go figure.

But, heck they're all my favorites.  The only ones I don't like are those silky ones that slide so easily and you'd have to pin it to your skin to make it stay put.  Those are the ones that ppl admire and want to pet you for the feel.

And the beaded ones always get ppl asking...did you make that yourself?  Like I wish I was that crafty.

I really do wish I was that crafty and make my own clothes and hijabs.  Ya' know what would be cool? :-[

If when we get together, we could purchase scarf like material and design our own scarves.  I should do that with my daughter.  Hmmmm....insha-Allah.

Ma-asalaama.....

For the silky ones why don't you wear a cotton cap underneath? I find it keeps the hair in place and stops the more slippery material from sliding off.

I guess my fav hijab is a rectangular shape. Not the very thick ones (furry) or lare pashminas, but cotton and thin. Its hard to find rectangular ones around, found a Br. selling them on a stall and bought them all because I knew I'd never get another chance to find ones like those. My best colour is black because you can wear it with any outfit - do ever find yourself trying to make sure you match the colour of your scarf with your outfit?

How do wear your rectangular scarves? I often find a very long piece that hangs down after wrapping it and I'm not sure what to do with it. I use tailor needles (very long) to set the scarf at the back.

This looked like a nice way of wearing a rectangle scarf anyone know how its done?

[slm],

I don't wear hijab all the time, I started to on Monday evening for a night class. And my favorite one is a soft light blue and yellow marbled pattern one. It's so pretty, and looks so nice with my skin tone too. And is so soft, I love it.

i prefer the soft black ones too.

Black -  Mainly because i have an atrocious sense of color co-ordination!! hehe and also it's so versatile.

Soft : cos it drapes and sits well.  Also doesnt get all bunched up around the neck or front like the little firmer ones do sometimes.

Square : easier for me to handle.  The Dupatta style ones are kewl, but i just can't handle them.

Well, my favourite Hijaabs are in my mom and sisters' drawers, hehe!  I like their stuff much more than my own...;)  We have way different taste, and somehow the stuff they buy never interests me until we get home and I fit them on...*sigh* hehe:)

I like the long rectangular shayla/milfeh/dupatta ones, cuz I dont need any pins (I lose about 1000000 scarf pins a year-am convinced we have little "Borrowers" in our house, esp in my room;) ).  BUT they are not practical when I need to be using my stethoscope (i.e during the week), so I wear them mostly on weekends, and during rotations like psychiatry;)

Favourite colour is white, dark blue and maroon *sigh*  But my mom has this lilac scarf that's soooo luxurious, wowzers, I get into trouble for wearing it!  ;D

Special occasion hijaabs usually have some sort of fancy design or glitter stuff, the are really delicate, and not to be worn often, but soooo lovely to wear anyway:)  My fav is navy blue with silver glitter stuff...in delicate designs.

Went through a stage where I wore only black Gulf shaylas, still like them, but have discovered a whole new world of colour, alhamdulillah.

Enuf about me hijaabs:)

My favourite hijab is the Al Ameera hijab. Or Syrian style as they call them some people. I just love them. Now i purchased some longer ones, in black and wear them with my niqaab. Since i now alhamdulilah started wearing niqaab. But for women gatherings etc, and home at my parents when non muslim women comes around, i dont cover my face, so then Al Ameera in two colours is really handy!
