Grandchild born/complications/dua request

Hello everyone, almost 2 am here and just got home.
My Granddaughter was born about 10 or 10:30 pm.
My poor daughter-in-law, her blood pressure jumped and she had to
have meds which was not good for the baby. (They think she had developed toximia and didn't know it)
The baby's heart rate dropped and they had to take her c-section.
Looks like she had a bowel movement while still inside her Mom and then inhaled it. (before birth)
Poor baby is in antibiotics, IV and O2 and we have not gotten the results of her chest x-ray.
She's a little sluggish but quite alert as when I touched her and talked to her she would respond to voice....that was sooo cool.
But she's beautiful. 7 lbs and 6 oz.
My poor daughter-in-law was in labor over 15 hours and had pushed an hour when they had to take the baby and now they are monitoring her cause of her blood pressure and hoping she does not have a siesure.

My son, well he is a proud Dad and they let him carry the baby from the O.R. to the nursery, we could see him from the window and thought it was cool they let him carry her in his arms. I don't think it has hit him yet all that went on and he was in the O.R. with his wife. They worked on the baby after that for a few hours.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts and prayers.

Congratulations. I think from my own experience that babies do tend to have bowel movements when they're overdue as their bowels have matured (that's what they told me when I was in that situation). Inshallah they will be fine and home before you know it, congratulations again, and well done to your daughter-in-law....

My eldest born also "ate" his own faeces and was under observation for the longest time.  Doc told me he was also "situs invertus" which to me means red alarm bells.  I had complications and was observed for more than 6 hours after delivery etc etc...

Now Wafi is 7 years old and asking too many pesky questions  ::)

I make du'ah that you too will savour that special moment when your lil precious girl asks you in a conspiratorial whisper so your son and his wife can't hear "Gramma if I am a good girl for the whole of this week..will I get that brand new (insert the latest toy here) " and like my mom and dad, you WILL say yes  :-/

Congratulations.

UmmWafi, thank you for sharing that, can you tell me how it went through the first couple days? I have never had this happen to anyone born in our family. I have heard of it. This child not only swallowed some as your did, they say she inhaled it and they did a chest xray last night, I guess this junk is in her lungs. The nurse suctioned it out of her stomach but I guess they cannot suction it out of lungs.

She was a week over due and that may be what Fozia was speaking of. I knew something was wrong as I was watching the baby and Mothers monitor from the nurses station and then when they started to scurry and one was upset the flow meter for the O2 was not in the room, I knew something was wrong, I had two children with no O2 and my friend had 5 children with no O2

And yes Jannah I did get many outfits   ;D However I pray her parnets will see fit to teach her modesty. That is in my heart so deeply as I hate seeing little girls with dresses so high they do not cover even their backside totally, I worry how parents can let 5 and 6 and 8 year olds wear shirt shorts and short dresses. But I won't get on that soap box just yet, but I am soooooo old fashioned about such things. The son who had this child is a prim, proper and things are to be approriate type   :) and that is a good thing  ;)

Same thing happened to Ali and I. :P

Subhanna Allah he cleared up with in a day.

Today he is a strong healthy boy who just ran 5 miles... mash Allah.

As you will tell your children... this too shall pass.

Dear Azizah

The nurses sucked the dirt from his stomache and for the next 24 hours Wafi wasn't allowed to take anything.  He was put on intravenous feeding, but it was largely water.  This is so that the body can slowly expel dirt on its own.  Milk was allowed only after the third day I think.  I dunno about inhaling it tho because breathing usually start after delivery right ? Maybe an obs/gyn can inform us.  Anyone ?

Wafi was one week overdue too.  He came with wrinkled skin and long nails.  His face was all scrunched up like an angry old man and he whimpers instead of cry.  Maybe my baby knew how evil the world can be and didnt want to leave my womb :)

Inshaa Allah...your granddaughter will come out tops.

Thank you for sharing that with me.
Well, she is off the O2     :-/
They allowed my daughter-in-law to nurse and the baby was very very hungry as it was like almost 20 hours after she was born.

I don't know about that stuff UmmWafi I think once the water breaks and they are in the birth canal they if under stress try to take a breath, I hear they can do that inside also.

her lungs still have fluid in them but must not be too bad if she no longer need the O2. She eats like her father  ( oink oink  :D  )

She is 5th of 5 living generations     :o
Her name is kinsey  pronounced   Kin as in kin folk/relatives and sey as if a child were to call a horse a horsey
She was 7 lbs 6 oz and was a week over due, if she had been born around her due date she would of been in the 6 lbs range like her daddy.
20 inches long.

My mother is a great grandmother and not even 60 years old yet    ;D
My grandmother a Great great grandmother (she is in her 80's)
I am so glad my mom was there also,  as my sons grandparents were still living in Iran when he was born. Unfortunatly she (my x-hubbys mom_ cannot see now due to her bad eyes, shame she cannot see her great grandchild.

Anyway she is doing much much better but still in need of care.

Don't worry sister Azizah.  These types of complications happen a lot, and except in the most severe cases, there is no permanent damage.  And as i see from your post, the baby is doing well.  Mabrook!   :)

CONGRATULATION azizah  :)

I can  understand  your  happiness .and  i am very  happy  as well  for you
I  hope the baby  and  his   mother are  alright .

you  know ? since you  dont  have  a  recent  practice  in such  a situation (new  born baby  in the  family ), things will  look  hard   at  the  begining  and even the simple misorders in  the  baby is  not accepatable .  I  HOPE you  will  enjoy the  good and  happiness  this  baby  has  brought  to this  nice family

and  may  ALLAH keep  her  in  peace and her  parrents
;-) ;-)

We learned a little bit about this when i was doing my ob/gyn rotation...i think it's called meconium aspiration. meconium is the name for the baby's first bowel movement and aspiration is just when you get stuff down your lungs that shouldn't be there, like fluid. i think sister shahida is doing hers right now, so maybe she can provide a little more info  :-*

But basically when the baby gets stressed in utero, it poops, so you have do some vigorous suctioning of its nose and mouth as it's being delivered. otherwise that's where the baby can sort of choke on that fluid and aspirate it and then it gets that fluid in its lungs.

Here's a little definition i found at webmd:

Meconium Aspiration Syndrome (MAS) -- Respiratory disease of term, post-term, and small newborns caused by inhalation of meconium or meconium-stained amniotic fluid into the lungs; characterized by mild to severe respiratory distress.

Inshallah i hope your daughter-in-law and granddaugher get through this. please let us know how they do.

Masha-Allah.  Mabrook Sr Azizah for the new arrival.  A baby is a gift from Allah (SWT).

Sorry to here of the ordeal you and your family had to go through.  I understand it as well.  Mine was little less frightening.  My husband never told me until years after our daughter was born.   She had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck when she came out.  When I didn't hear her cry, they didn't panic just queitly untangled her and then she cried.  Ahhh....music to my ears.  My husband did his thing and then my father in law took his turn.  Never saw them bond like that, ever or ever again.

There are many frightening stories.  One of cousins had a baby and his abdomen wasn't fully formed so he had an opening, literally.  They closed it with surgery and Al-hamdulillah, he's fine now.

And Al-hamdulillah, your grandson sounds like he's on his way.  You're in my du'as and your family as well.

You gotta show us some pictures.

Ma-asalaama....

Congrats on the new baby... must be so exciting, being a grandma, mashaALlah :)

InshaAllah, the baby would grow up well, with a beautiful heart. Beautiful hearts have to struggle when they first come to this world, I guess :) And like all beautiful things, they need some chiselling first ;)

Take care, you n your family are in my prayers.... pls keep mine in yours :)
With Love

Hello everyone, thank you so much for the kind words and warm wishes, my beautiful Granddaughter is home and doing well   :-*

On her one week old appt she had already gained a whole pound   :o
She eats like her daddy    :)

I cannot get over how she looks just like my son, he says it is scarey as it is like seeing his face on a baby body   :D

I was really worried and to see her hooked up to O2, IV and monitors was something else. All is well,  thanks and praise be to God.

:D  My sons is so thrilled he is already talking about his next 2  babies   :o     :-*
