horsetail (hair) in medicine

I'm stressed out. I  work part time. I also work part time for free for the newspaper as the Editor. (I receive a scholarship but the money's not quivalent to working 20 hours a week on it). Being the Editor is a lot of hard work. You get blamed for other people's mistakes and when the deadlines are looming, I go on 5 cups of coffee a day, with as little sleep as 4 hours a night for a week. Then I crash on the weekened and the cycle starts all over again. (Yes, I have a point to make. Be patient).

And the hardest part of editing is editing. People get mad at me because they can't write good and their grammer is worse than a high school drop-out's. (Ignore how I write on here, this is time away from commas and run-ons).

So I have to deal with people's attitueds, and I can handle it pretty well until that deadline is looming over my head. Then I have to deal with the administration and their politcs and backbiting, and bickering. Which means I have to make a lot of ethical decisions. Which means people that I considered friends before are not friends anymore.

I take 15 hours of credits. I also have a debate/speech scholarship--you know that means. I have to compete in debate/speech competitions.

If I were't going to school, then newspaper would be a breeze, because that would be my only duty, asides from my family.

When I'm stressed out, my facial musceles tense up and my head hurts, which is *not* the same as a headache. And my jaws lock up. And it's been like this for two days now. It hurts, but I still go about my duties, and I have't been able to sleep peacefull at night. Because even then my facial musceles haven't relaxed entirely.

This doens't happen all the time. Just occasionly when I'm anxious. And right now my biggest anxiety is the speech that I have to research on and write down by this sunday night at 10:00. So the speech has my jaws locked, go figure.

I took this herbel medicine which uses horsetail (hair). It helped me realx a little. But before I could take a third pill (3 needed to relax all the way), i read the ingredients. So my question is is horsetail ok to use? I can't find anyone who can answer this for me. I searched the online databases too.

Anyone with an answer? Help.

Well sister Panjul I am just wondering are those duties what you are talking about really your DUTIES? I think some times we unnecessarily impose things own ourselves and call them DUTIES and NECESSITIES of life. Although they are neither our duties nor necessities of life instead those are just our wild desires and wishes. I think this behavior is a by product of today's so called modern world and most of us are victom of this disease. But alas we are looking for it's cure in the disease itself.

So sister what my advice is that you should have couple of hours more sleep instead of any medicine which has horse or pig hairs. (Apart from the discussion either it's halal or haram)

Regarding the original question I think most of the scholars have allowed limited use of alcohol in medicines for instance most of the medicines for flu have certain percentage of alcohol. So I think we can apply the same rule on horse hairs also but better ask someone more knowledgable since in english we say little knowledge it dangerous.

Note: Before anyone tells me that I was blamming sister Panjul instead of advising I appologise in advance if anyone finds my words offensive or hurting.

Not offended at all. In fact, when I was writing that I kept thinking to myself, what am I doing to myself?
But it's a tough world out there. I'm going into law. The debate scholarship is going to help me put through law school. Going to law school is *expensive.* And not everyone is eligible for financial aid.

Besides, this isn't going to be my life for the rest of my days on earth inshallah. It will get a little easier.

It's a competitive market. My advisor (law professor) says, its what you do outside of making the A in class that counts more than your grade.

However, I'm the type of person that gets stressed out easily. and i tense up easily.

Besides the other advice  others gave to try to find ways to take it easy, which is good, (a dhikr routine or something should help in this regard)horsetail is actually a plant.

Unless, of course, they are actually using horse tail hairs.

Sis, in short you need to take things easy. delegate your tasks to others and invite some pool of peopl to help you in your work.
I bet you cholestrol level is high as well isn't it??? Mine is just at mild and thats when I reached it by sleeping less than 6 hours a day over a period of two years.
You might also want to take some further stuff like Vitamin B6, Vitamin C to reduce your stress levels.

Anyway more later...

Hanif
