Going on Jamaat?

If anyone has ever "gone on Jamaat" (i.e with the Jamaat al-Tableegh), please could you describe what exactly you do on these expeditions?  Why is it called "going out in the path of Allah"?

JazakumAllahu khairun in advance....

Salam
Shahida:)

Pls note: this is not meant to be an open invitation to start propagating the message of the Tableegh Jamaat, nor is it meant as an invitation to bash this group of Muslims (may Allah save us).  Please, I am just looking for some info on what the whole going on Jamaat process entails.  Thanks :)

I have, for 3 Days 7-8 times.

Going out on jamaat is usually for 1, 3, 10, 40 days or 4 Months. Its like a retreat, when in jamaat Muslims stay in a masjid (when out for 10 days or less, more than one masjids when the time span is gr8er). This trip is for [1] for one's own self i.e. growing in deen [2] for dawah to Muslims where the jamaat stays.

Its kinda like on job learning.

Here is what Muslims do when out with jamaat (in Muslim countries)

* There is an ameer who leads the jamaat and for each decision everyone's opinion is asked for.

* After faj'r prayer the nominated guy delivers the 'bayan' and talks about 6 things

1) Tawheed (How everything is the hands of Allah. Tawakul)
2) Namaz (Prayer)
3) Ilm (importance of gaining knowledge)
4) Dhikr (its importance and benefits)
5) Ikraam-e-Muslim (Importance of being nice to others)
6) Tabligh (Importance of dawah)

* After the 'bayan' people goto sleep

* At around 10 AM the 'taleem' starts i.e. a book named 'Fada'il-a-a'maal' or 'Fada'il-a-sadaqat' or 'selected Hadiths' is read by an already nominated person, its goes on for about 1-30 hours

* During 'taleem' sub-jamaats of two guys each (1 or 2) go out of the masjid and ask people from local community to join the 'taleem' and if they are not free they are invited to be there in 'bayan' after  maghrib

* After the 'taleem' people sit in group of 3-4 and memorize duas and short surahs

* In the meantime 'khidmah' people (two or three guys that cook for others... and these duties change daily) buy grocery and cook... (while in jamaat I once cooked for 8-10 people 8) )

* After duhr, there is again a short bayan and then people rest.

* After as'r a sub-jamaat goes out of the mosque in order to invite people for magrib 'bayan' while back in masjid other people of jamaat talk about 'eemaneyat' (Tawheed, importance of sunnah)

* After maghrib salah there is a 'bayan' which is also attended by the people living in the area.

* After this 'bayan' the listeners are encouraged/inquired that if they want to go on this type of retreat.

* Then after esha, again a book containing ayah's of Qur'an, hadith and sunnah is read out to people by an already nominated guy and then finally they go to sleep (phew.... bizi schedule :) )

BTW i'm a slacker, my elder bro could have explained much better.... um.. perhaps Muhammad Ahmed, Abu_Hamza or bro Hanif can :)

oh and its not a 'Men Only' club :P. Women go on jamaat with their mehrams for 1, 3, 10 and 15 days at the max. Their stay in a house, very close to the masjid in which men stay, is preplanned.

Going out on a retreat to learn and grow in deen is like going out in path of Allah, right?
