Salaam

If its the time of fasting and you have to break fast early for some reason, what should you do?  Also, what are proper reasons for not fasting and making it up later?

Thanks

Wa 'alaykum assalaam,

When you say you have to break your fast early [i]for some reason[/i], what reason do you mean, if I may ask? It depends on the reason. According to the Quraan/Sunnah, these are the only reasons for not fasting in the first place:
When you're ill. [make up later]
When you're too old.
When you're too young.
When you're travelling. [make up later]
When you're pregnant. [make up later]
Just after you've given birth. [make up later]
When a woman is on her menses. [make up later]

Hope that helped.

Br. Chris, when I'm fasting if I'm going to be commuting to or from home during Iftar time I carry a few dates and a bottle of water with me, same if I'm in a meeting, you can be quite inconspicuous whilst breaking fast, you don't have to have a full on meal. If at work I usually take lunch at Iftar times, but then they let me do as I please at work....

Chris don't be overwhelmed it's really *not* that bad :-* once you get the hang of it the body adjusts and even after Ramadhan, sometimes you feel like just continuing :)

But here's a link that is an "everything you need to know about fasting" guide:) May Allah make it easy for you:)
