| [slm] all:) We had an Islam week at our campus last week. I did not spend much time there, but when I was there, I helped to answer some questions about Islam etc. On 3 occasions (twice ladies, and 1 time a man) asked about Hijaab. Not just about the general stuff, but with particular reference to why some sisters manning the info tables were not wearing Hijaab. In the past I used to be a bit shy about answering a question about Islam, when there were Muslims present who did not conform to certain laws...like the one time my non-Muslim friend asked about boyfriend-girlfreind relationships in front of a Muslima who was holding her boyfriend's hand ::) I kinda told her, that I would tell her about it later, which I did... ::) Nowadays, I am not shy anymore. I figure giving the truth is more important than offending some people. And I do try and make it as soft as possible, because we are Muslims after all... So my answer to the 3 people was, that yes, Allah does tell us to observe modesty and cover our bodies etc etc BUT that everyone had a personal choice whether to accept His laws or not. There are many aspects of Islam, and we are human, and might have certain difficulties in fulfilling certain duties, but we pray that God will help us to become whole Muslims. How do ya'll deal with similar situations? Swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth? Is there a "better" way of doing these things? Salam Shahida :-) |

| [slm] My answers on why we wear hijab and why some muslimah do not wear the hijab. Why do we wear the hijab? For the love of Allah. To please Allah by obeying His commands. Why do some muslimah do not wear the hijab? Wearing the hijab is the command of Allah to believing women. But we have the free will to choose to obey or disobey His commands. i.e. we have the free will to choose between right and wrong, good and evil, obey and disobey :-) |
