POWER CRICKET: Yesterday here is Qadaffi Stadium Lahore, our young and fresh Pakistani team won against the ~ahem~ mighty South African team. Most of the Old members are on rest while one of them (Saeed Anwar) is most probly away on TJamaat :)

any comments bro 'brother' "masoom pathan :P"  ?

=======
Highlights
=======

Boeta Dippenaar's maiden one-day century proved insufficient to save South Africa on Friday as the tourists surrendered to the extreme pace of Shoaib Akhtar, the bowler leading Pakistan to a dramatic eight-run win in their first one-day international.

-- baychara :P

But in the end it was the 28-year-old Akhtar who had the last laugh, bowling in heavily dewy conditions that were not helpful to either side. Akhtar broke the opening stand in the 27th over, getting Smith caught at mid-on by Inzamam-ul-Haq -- who took a low catch -- and than bowled Jacques Kallis in the next over.

-- Go Shoabii

Malik came into bat in the 39th over and took the South African attack apart in the final 10 overs in a spectacular blitz that included six fours and six sixes. The 21-year-old, playing in his 49th match, reached his half century from just 35 balls with five fours and two sixes.

-- That must have HURT :P

Just read the details on BBC Sports. Can't watch cricket here in States  :(, but anyways that's a good thing in a way 'cause I am a big time cricket addict. So this Boeta dippenaar is a new player on SA's side, haven't heard of him before. I guess he wasn't even there in world cup. Can't believe Shoaib Malik played so well: 82 runs off 41 balls, that's superb. He came in the team as a bowler, didn't know he is such a fine batsman, or maybe he has sharpened his batting skills lately.
Qaddafi stadium always reminds me Ejaz Ahmed's 139 not out (his top score ever in ODI cricket) against India  :). Cool, cricket memories back.......

Both teams are gonna be face to face tomorrow, Sunday. Lets see what the Pakis do this time as they are never.. i mean "never" consistent.

I used to be an addict and watched matches till the last ball but watching the whole match isn't worth it coz its such a wastage of time, the fnial overs of both innings will do inshaAllah :)

I've been away from the board for a while. What a way to come back. Surely we blasted them. I think it was a very good effort on our part, but II think batting first was an advantage, it always is especially in a day and night game. These youngers are doing very well, however the next couple of games will show how well these youngsters can stand the pressure. It will also be interesting to see Pakistan win when the bat second.

btw Mr Nomi, this masoom pathan scored third most runs in the overall league (381), most runs of the team, most catches in the outfield, best batting average in the team (25.xx) and the MVP of the club. BEAT THAT.

1. you are right bro... this "brother" made all those bowlers looked dheelay.
2. The list is not just 50. It's alot longer, The page just shows the first 50.
3. Tape ball hat tricks don't count.
4. The two guys with more runs are amazing batsmen. Infact the guy with   the most runs was at one time Pakistan's under 19 team captain.
5. This was the first time that I played as a recognized batsman, so I think two fiftys is not a bad start, plus they came in the last couple of games so save that link InshAllah I'll be on top of that list next year.
6. You just bring it bredren. We'll c who get's dented.

Injured Inzi hit 3 boundaries in the last over, did you bros see Hall's face :P and some superb fielding by Pakis, 3 runouts.

Next match in Faisalabad!

And Inzy!!  Wah...came out limping and smacked 16 runs off the last over!  Who wouldve thunk it...

Can't wait till tomorrow....inshaAllah we'll make it a whitewash  ;D

1. I say good performance on the part of Pakistan.
2. Bad decision making on Graeme Smith and South African team's part for deciding to bat second. I can't beleive he let us bat first in a day/night game. He should've learnt from game one. Plus we are known bad chasers.
Anyways the real test for Pakland still remains, I wanna see them win chasing.

Indeed another good match  :). Youngsters are no doubt very good at fielding. I remember Imran Nazir (former batsman) not only used to be a good batsman, but he was an excellent fielder too. We used to call him "desi Jonty Rhodes"  :) (one of those fun names for him like we used to have for our team players). Read about youhanna's clash with Hall, that's not a good thing.

Btw, what's up with Vikki boy?.......um I mean Waqar Younus  :P our "Tezgaam" (is that what he's called?) Why ain't he in the team?

Shaybii is good coz when he's ON its MUSIC time :P ... Sami is fine coz he get's on you quicker than you expect and same is the case with Razzaq. But the good old days of Wikki and Wasim bhai (the marvelous W2) were simply out of the world!!

Them people at times used to break the wickets.... FAST stuff. Lets see how our boys perform in coming games, so far so good.

BTW how do you sisters lower your gaze while watching a men's game ? Like i start "examining" the maker's name of our TV set whenever the cameraman starts "eyeing" ladies in the crowd, sometimes i just change the channel to a blank screen.

It's even harder for you sisters, no? coz its all men in the field !!

Dude.....the wickets nowadays are pretty much synthetic...not the material they used in the two W's day....I mean shaybii bhai letting em go at almost 100mph would shatter any wicket dont u think  :P

Hmm lowering the gaze....kafi bharri masla hota hai  ::)  I don't really watch the match through-out.  I'm content to watch the highlights which give an over-view of the whole match without zooming in on any particular player  ;)

I like your tip tho...whenever the camera dude starts "eyeing" in on someone, turn your attention and gaze to something else till hes done hehe.

Lowering gaze while watching TV. good one. Man just think of em as colourfull electrons.

I say there is not a prettier scene in the world then a fast bowler uprooting the wicket with a perfect yorker. Waqar was known for that inswinging one.

Can't think of em as just colored electrons and for each ball both the bowler and the batsman get zoomed-in at. Its equally important to lower one's gaze while watching TV (i watch sports only occasionally).

Assalamu 'Alaikum,
Bro, its called out with the old, in with the new  ;)
No waaaaaay...........Come on now, Waqar ain't that old. I can understand Wasim bhai's being out of team, that he is diabetic and he already has done what he had to do......... like more than 500 wickets in ODIs, the highest no. of wickets a player has in cricket's history, so he already has a world record under his name, but Waqar, poor guy hasn't done anything yet, I mean he is the one next in line to set a world record of highest wickets, actually he is the only one who can "break" Wasim bhai's record, but now he has been taken out of the team.   Aah! I don't understand these PCB people, and he hasn't even announced his retirement or anything, he still wants to play.
I say there is not a prettier scene in the world then a fast bowler uprooting the wicket with a perfect yorker. Waqar was known for that inswinging one.
Oh man! and his those 'toe crushing' yorkers, they used to be the killer ones  :).

Pepsi used to have a very cool commercial before Shoaib had achieved his 100 mph. Nomi might have seen it. They show Shoaib chasing the Pepsi truck to grab some pepsi bottles for him and his team mates who are being driven in another bus/truck. Finally, when he does catch up with the truck, wasim bhai and other team-mates are shown drinking Pepsi and the commercial ends with wasim bhai saying (with a smile on his face and pointing towards Shoaib) "Ab to 100 meel kerega yeh"  :)

afraid over here in the uk u very rarely get to watch cricket as it is on pay for view channels on digital, each series on a diff channel so as i can't get all the channels i tend to 'watch' matches on the internet, with wicket allerts and desktop score boxes. And then in the same way as sis watch the highlights.

I think in a way it is beneficial to the team that the 2Ws are not there...wait b4 u blast me....the younger players tend to be so in awe of them that i feel they don't ocncentrate as much on improving their own game or they become nervous or even worse they feel complacent, 'oh wasim bhai is there he'll get the wickets'  Also it is good that now it appears the team is finally being selected on performance rather than on reputation.

Ok feel free to blast now....... ;)

Totally agree with you T sis  ;D  The sheer presence of legends like the 2 W's are enough to make any player weak at the knees.

Wasim's diabetic  :o woah didnt know.....as for waqar...he is old bulwark bhai, in terms of fast bowlers.  You see, the more you play, the more toll it takes on your body, especially if you steam in on every delivery....and the older you get, the slower your body recovers....so even though waqar hasnt achieved what he was capable of, ppl will still remember how he used to terrorize batsmen the world over with those inswingin yorkers. 8)

sometimes i wish the national cricket teams of super poor dysfunctional muslims countries like pakistan and bangladesh would just fall into a black hole.

people in these countries seemed to be defined by their cricket.  and they think they are so cool just because their cricket teams are doing well.  its just a mass opiate of the public to keep the public occupied and from screaming and shouting about the total dysfunctionality of the countries.
when the romans wanted to keep the public from complaining they used to hold games, gladiator fights and stuff like that for days without end...

when pakistan won the world cup, some people thought it was jannah on earth, and were dancing in the street. when bangladesh beat pakistan people were dancing in the street and throwing paint onto passing cars.

what right do people have to be so happy about some drunkard guys from a muslim country beating non-muslim opposition?  does it mean that they are better than say the english or austrailians or more developed than them?  No way dudes.  When the brits lose the just go back to their posh residences and lives untouched by misery.  when the bingos or pakis lose they just sorrowfully wander back to their mud huts, ghettos, and basketcase lives.

when the pakis and bingos can wander back to decent accommodation and fruitful lives then we can celebrate.

i am not saying sport is stupid.  i love it. but national sport in these countries should not be all about the "national pride."  i would much rather be a fan of say the New York Jets than the Pakistan cricket team simply because their is no nationalism involved, and in the case of the Jets or Chelsea Football Club its just a game -- a laugh -- a bit of fun -- not something with deeply nationalistic undertones.

Sorry I don't agree with you ok i love it when Pakistan play and win cricket, in the same way if Pakistan arent playing then i would support Bangladesh as my muslim brothers and same goes for other sports for example snooker now i know Ronnie O'sullivan is a muslim i support him and want him to win every game he plays or if there is a muslim tennis player playing i will want him to win. And i am happy when a muslim beats a non muslim in any sport. This does not mean that i forget about the things around me or that there are concerns in life other than sports events and their outcomes... and as for saying they are all drunkards surely it is not fair to cast suspicion on fellow muslims.

and as for your comments about British people they are waay more nationalistic in my opinion if they should win a football match or cricket match they become the 'best in the world and no one is better than them' and if they loose then it was the umpires or the refs or the coach or the players are no good and need to be retired..... and as for going back to decent accommodation, there are many people in britain tooo who do not have decent accomodation or fruitful lives.....

n e way that's just my opinion....

Duuuuude....have u heard of a little thing called baseball?  Theyre currently in their league championship series and there was major rioting in the cities whose teams got through....americans are extremely proud and emotionally attached to their teams.

Cricket in pakistan can be a way for the youth to direct their energy to something positive rather than slummin it in the ghettos and getting into all sorts of trouble.

Agree with sis T, dont speculate about their character....Allah swt knows best what people do.  :)

...try getting that from a mozlem country...

btw I: the world series is named the world series only because the sponsor in like 1903 (i think) was called the world review  or sumthin.  (it was a magazine, and the world part of the World Series came from the name of the magazine...)

btw II:  about cricket taking kids off the street and putting their energy to productive use ..... well everybody uses the same rationale about black people in america.  so now you have lots of professional black athletes, and for every one which made it there are a zillion who failed and are like in the gutter now or in jail.  people make it seem like the only way for black people to survive in america (and not like become a drug pusher) is to become a professional athlete.  what ever happened to just being a decent student, growing up to somebody educated, etc?  Forget that, black people can only be sportsmen, never scientists, mathmaticians, or important people.  its like, either yur Halle Berry or Serena Williams or Labron James or Marshall Faulk or you ain't ever gonna amount to even a hill of beans......and so now we're supposed to accept the same rationale about young pakis and bingos in the slums of karachi and dhaka?  Ouch!

Hmm where r u living bro where i am unless u go to a private school or you happen to be very very lucky the education standards are dropping and as for medical care its been in the news for ages that they are trying to introduce charging for some services.... :(  and that the standards of care received on NHS are droping due to understaffing.

As for a prosperous life this country is sooo materialistic, life revolves around work at all times, i know people who work all the hours they can and they are still worse off than those that do no work at all and sit at home and claim benefits etc....

As for justice ask those who have been imprisoned falsely only to be released years later after long and arduous appeals proceedures.....

I don't know that much abt muslim countries I only know what Pakistan is like cause i go there to see my family.

Sigh i guess everyone has their own reflection on the societies they live in.....this is just my view and i am sorry if i have upset anyone this was and is not my intention......
